School Bus Driver Arrested For Street Racing Against Her Son

POSTED: 7:01 am EDT April 11, 2005

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- An Osceola County school bus driver was arrested over the weekend for street racing. Deputies arrested Christine Illgen early Sunday morning during a sting on Rocket Boulevard in Orange County.

Deputies arrested Illgen, 44, early Sunday morning after they caught her racing against her 17-year-old son. He was just given a ticket, but Illgen has a lot more to lose.

The Osceola County School District removed her from her duties and brought in a substitute bus driver to take over her route.

If convicted, Illgen could lose her driver’s license for a year and her case will be forwarded to the Department of Children and Families for possible child endangerment.

Was she street-racing the bus or her own vehicle? Scary-looking thing, by the way.....

Another case of shoddy reporting.

Who won the race?

If she had kids on the bus they should put her under the jail.

It seems there are constantly crazy stories coming out of Florida: The dentist who practiced in the back of his car; Michael Schiavo killing his wife; evacuations; the sexual harassment suit against Bishop Lynch; a violent killer given a new chance to plea bargain after his lawyer rejected and then he didn't like the jury verdict; and lots more.

If I were to retire, it would not be to Florida.

I know a lot of youg folks who could give some of those drivers a run for their money between the street racing and the performance enhancements :-) I like to watch the races on tv but the street racing is more entertaining.

I'm getting a few performance enhancements done this week. Of course, I have just one vehicle so I'm not going to risk it by racing young punks in the street.

Well, if it wasn't for the high cost of legal racing, and the fact the many areas refuse to allow racers a place to run, Mom would have been out there just having fun with the kids.

Yeah, it sure is easier to write a ticket than to find a place for kids to race legally.

I'm old. I miss the 'run what ya brung' days, and I HATE the showmanship and big bucks drags of today. Why is it they make everything a spectator sport?

I know it's wrong, but when I heard this Mother was arrested for Street Racing with her Son, I thought is was pretty cool.

My Mom used to check me out of school when I was 12 and we would go fishing. Believe me, we raced to the lake!
