MASON, Mich. A planned auction of Ku Klux Klan items was canceled Saturday after fliers encouraging KKK membership were distributed in the community where the event was to be held.
Residents in Mason, a Lansing suburb where civil rights leader Malcolm X lived for a time, awoke to find the fliers in front of their homes on Saturday. The fliers did not mention Sunday's auction, but the Ole Gray Nash Auction House in Howell canceled the event regardless.
"We don't believe [the fliers were] actually authentic, but someone went to a lot of trouble," said Becky Hinz, an auction house employee. "It was something we chose not to partake in or assist in any way shape or form."
Hinz said there were no plans Saturday to reschedule the auction.
Gary Gray, who owns the Ole Gray Nash Auction House, has said he is not a KKK supporter and was simply interested in the items' historical value. A January auction of KKK memorabilia packed the auction house with spectators, while protesters called it insensitive. The items sold raised at least $24,000, the auction house said.

Forty tiny seconds . . . .8^)
I'll support a KKK auction site and use it to demonstrate quite clearly how the KKK was the terrorist wing of the Democrat Party.
Bingo
Is that an actual picture of a photoshop one? I'm leaning towards actuall but need some clarification...
I always have assumed it was photoshopped, if somebody could find an actual picture of Byrd in a Klan robe I would pay plenty for it (and then take out full page ads in every major newspaper in the country).
This guy originally planned on auctioning one Kluckster robe from an estate in Saline. It probably would not have been news, but the Grand Jackass used to live in Cohoctah 10 minutes from his auction site in Howell.
The local rag has this as a front page story for two weeks straight. A city council joker wanted to buy the robe and burn it to send a message that this wasn't welcome here once again creating news and tying this county to the Kluxsters(dead for 13 years). He later backed down, but continuted to run his big democrat mouth(I wish city council elections were partisan, but that's another story).
After all the press, more robes came in for sale, since the press generated to his auction would mean more money and more advertisement. All this new stuff was because of that last debacle.
Personally, I wouldn't pay a nickle for that trash. I don't want to reward anyone for owning it.
Those "fliers" could be a leftie plant, also.
Or they could have just fallen out of Robert Byrd's car when he dropped by to look for new display pieces for his personal KKK collection.
I got quite a laugh. The Klan was threatening me with the ACLU. Good campaign material!!
Its photoshopped. Sheets swore off that stuff before he got as old as he is in the pic. Or at least thats the official story.
