THE TRAGEDY OF TERRI SCHIAVO ILLUMINATED MANY THINGS, and none more startling than the deep anti-Christian bigotry among many on the left.
On March 29, New York Times columnist Paul Krugman warned that "liberal politicians, and even conservatives who aren't sufficiently hard-line" may someday have to fear assassination from religious believers "unless moderates take a stand against the growing power of domestic extremists."
Five days earlier, Mr. Krugman's colleague on the Times opinion page, Maureen Dowd, exclaimed that "we really are in a theocracy."
Writer and commentator Andrew Sullivan branded Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol an "ally of religious radicalism" and a revolutionary because Mr. Kristol blasted the federal court's refusal to follow congressional urgings in the Schiavo legislation.
When Gov. Jeb Bush brought forward the affidavit of a distinguished physician, Dr. William Chesire, who argued for a reconsideration of Terri Schiavo's diagnosis, The New York Times tracked down Ronald Cranford, who had examined Terri Schiavo under COURT APPOINTMENT. Dr. Cranford declared, "I have no idea who this Chesire is...He has to be bogus, a pro-life fanatic."
These are examples of vitriolic caricature that are fit to print. The websites of the left were full of comments that cannot be printed about Christians who supported Terri Schiavo's parents, the Schindlers.
Two things are remarkable about this outpouring of fear and hate. First, it ignored the numerous and visible allies of the Schindlers who cannot be classified by any stretch of any imagination as the "religious right." Among them: Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, Ralph Nader, and Jesse Jackson.
Second, the springboarding from the Schiavo case to(in Mr. Krugman's fevered mind) the threat of assassination or(in Ms. Dowd's world) theocracy is simply astonishing for its absurdity, its complete seperation from logic or factual support. These are anti-Christian propagantists from whom no big lie is too big, no exaggeration too bold.
On the same day as Mr. Krugman's outburst, The Boston Globe ran an extensive profile of a family living in a Cincinnati suburb. The Wilkersons are evangelicals, and the Globe report treated them as though they were representative of an indigenous tribe from a faraway and curious culture, one that could not be expected to be familiar to the people of Boston.
This extraordinary piece simply underscored the distance that has developed between the mainstream of America and its elite journalists. The latter have lost sight of the normal and think it dangerous.
What an astonishing thing.

Thank you.
If Hewitt really means this, then I have to wonder where he's had his head for the last couple of decades. This attitude is hardly new.
"Evolu-shevik" - heh - that's good.
If you want to help them destroy themselves Google search "Do the Schiavo". I warn you it's one of the most disgusting things Ive seen liberals do to date.
I won't post the link but I am sending it to all the liberals I know. I want to know if it's the kind of thing they really want to support.
None of us are surprised.
I am glad to hear that you are mad, as am I. Which is why I'm sure you'll understand the efforts of individuals who wish to shed some light and expose the roaches. They are not shy in trying to hide under those "BOLDERS".
Well ...that's rational..
/sarcasm
People (including 'conservatives') make fun of 'single issue voters' --however, this inability to stand up for life (and don't even bother with those who actively support the destruction of life) reflects a profound lack of morality and moral judgement, regardless of which party candidate it comes from, that I just cannot believe they will consistently do what is best in any situation.
I am of the opinion that if a large population of conservatives would get their heads out of where ever they have been buried for the "last couple of decades" he would've have to draw attention to the issue.
I would agree with you. Unfortunately the country, as well as the world, gets our news from the west and east coasts. Quite an unbalanced representation of who we are and what we value as a nation.
They may be low in numbers, but the liberals have a big microphone. Which is why we must make an effort to expose their lies.
I hear you.
The main problem has been that for most conservatives, this hatred of religion by the left has always been a distant thing, not really having an effect on them or their daily lives. As a result, they've allowed the hate and bigotry to fester and grow, with plenty of loving care and nourishing by the MSM, until it has started to become something big enough so that they can no longer pretend it doesn't affect them.
Will the current excesses by the left be enough to shake us from our lassitude, or will we just say, like we have all along, that it will all go away with time?

I think they should get all the exposure they can handle for that site. So much for killing Terri out of love.
I would agree with you to a certain degree.
Our churches have been teaching a doctrine that encourages their congregations to examine themselves to the detriment of our culture. It's the "Me" generation within our sanctuaries that are sincerely seeking God on their own terms and not His, and with as little discomfort and effort as possible. After all, doesn't Jesus wish to make me happy.
Our churches have failed to require believers to exercise their civil responsibilities, which is why our numbers could greatly improve during elections if we considered the impact such an exercise in this privilege would make.
There appears to be a shift in the conservative body towards a more active role in what direction we want our country to travel. Whether or not we lead the charge in the right direction remains to be seen. I will pray that we follow the road less traveled.
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools...
It's all Greek to me. :^)
I simply can't bring myself to viewing such filth.
He's a SF petri dish with attitude (drop it like it's hot...)

The above link is a left wing cartoon that was passed around on the Net during Terri's starvation weeks. It is appalling, but also illuminates what the left wingers think about Christians or anyone who was upset about what was being done to Terri.

The above link gives a "cartoon" example of what leftwingers think about Christians, or anyone who was upset about Terri Schiavo being starved to death.
