Democratic Demigod

Senator Byrd (D-WV) has gotten a GOP challenger to his re-election efforts in 2006. We, of course, wish all success to Hiram Lewis and any other Republican who decides to challenge the Senator...but a nugget of information in the story makes me wish all success to anyone who challenges the Senator. I am extremely infuriated to find out about this:

"The Morgantown lawyer made his announcement near the base of a statue of West Virginia's senior Democratic senator at the state Capitol in Charleston."

I could not, at first, believe that a United States Senator would agree to have a statue of himself raised, nor could I believe that Americans would allow such a thing to happen. But, I checked, and its true:

Where is the mob of angry citizens to smash this statue? That is what I wonder....I can't believe our good fellow Americans in West Virginia allowed this to happen...

Grand KKK Wizard Byrd is WV's very own Saddam Hussein, an ego maniac run amok.

First elected 1952, Byrd has brought billions home in federal pork and has been rewarded by having his name attached to perhaps hundreds of buildings, highways and other programs and construction projects, more than the total number of things named for Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV., D-W.VA., and former GOP governors Cecil Underwood and Arch Moore combined.

Destruction will just get the person who does it in trouble. Would it be vandalism to add a white hood to it every night? Probably, in WV, anyway, where the guy has practically been declared a god.

Of course it would have to be a custom-made white hood, perhaps of paper, because it is not like you can go out to any old store and buy a crate of white hoods. Maybe in WV you can.

Is it just me, or don't you suspect that it is hard to find ANY location in West Virginia that does not have some memorial to Robert Byrd in the background somewhere?

One would hope that the individual running against Sen. Byrd is in reality more than a token candidate. Sen. Byrd is likely to die while still serving, or become another Frank Lautenberg, if he is not already.

Frank Lautenberg's handlers manage to keep him from getting too close to the microphones or any kind of recording device, most of the time.

That's certainly true. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting something with Byrd's name on it.

a statue of West Virginia's senior Democratic senator

Oh... my... word. How unbelieveably egotistical! Man, at least wait until someone's dead to erect a statue. Smacks of Hussein and Hitler and all our other megalomaniac/narcissistic rulers down through the ages.

I would offer one correction though. There IS a god named Allah, and he has a second name: Shetan.

Dress it and call the local paper -- the picture will go 'round the world...

IIRC Byrd has more stuff in his district named after him than any other Senator or House member - EVER.
