RALEIGH, NC -- Though House Speaker Jim Black warned the N.C. Senate this week not to tinker with a bill to start a state lottery that the House barely passed, don't bet on it.
"This is not Nebraska," said Sen. Tony Rand, the Senate majority leader, referring to the state whose legislature has one house, rather than two.
"Making sausage, everybody has to put a little in there," said Rand, D-Cumberland. "The sausage machine is not exclusively the province of one house."
(snip) "They'd better pass what we send over there," he said. "Because when it comes back to us ... it's a very delicate balance, and I don't want to deal with it anymore."

These people need attitude adjustments.
Obviously, Easley will force Basnight to bow to Black. (It's the Dem pecking order; If only I could draw cartoons...)

I'm not much of a gambler, but I love state lotteries. It's the idiot tax.

A cartoon like that might get you banned, TR. You know porn isn't allowed on FR.

Lottery is not a sure bet, state senators sayWow!! Best news I've heard all day. Thanks for the update TR. Watching WRAL up here in Raleigh, the general reporting makes one think that it was a foregone conclusion that we would have a lottery. And now I hear a bill has been introduced to allow horse betting at the 6 or 7 horse races in this state. All to 'attract' more attendees at the horse races...

"Basnight said he hadn't read the portion of the 21-page bill"
Simply incredible! How many times have we heard this lately? If I were a politician at the trough like so many of these panhandlers, I sure as hell would not admit to my constituents that I had not read the entire bill before commenting on it.
This has happened with some pretty important legislation as of late. The audacity of these jerks is just mind numbing. How in the world can you agree or disagree with legislation if you are not informed of the full context? Apparently most of these guys think they are untouchable. I sure hope the voters are paying attention and remove them from the public trough.

Yep, and after seeing some of the stuff that's hidden in the lottery bill, especially the internet and computer options, this has to be stopped. And I agree with you about Basnight.
