AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Mexico City was blocked mid-flight by U.S. authorities for having two undesirable people on board, the airline said Sunday.
KLM spokesman Bart Koster said the flight was approaching the U.S. border from Canada when the pilots was told they would not be allowed to enter U.S. airspace because of the two passengers who were considered a risk, apparently due to terrorism fears. Their names were not released.
The flight turned around and went back to Amsterdam. A new flight traveled as normal on Saturday, without the two problem passengers, Koster said.
It was not known what happened to the two travelers who were barred.
"They weren't suspected by the Dutch authorities or on European no-fly lists," he said. "I guess they went their way."
Kosters said the incident was unusual, since U.S. and European no-fly lists are usually the same.
Ping
Then why the diff this time?
Pilot: "Ladies and gentlemen, meet the two reasons we're being forced to fly back over the Atlantic...!"
I prefer a couple other options to letting terrorists live to fly another day:
1. Force the the plane down in the US, get the 2 terrorists, shoot them on the tarmac.
OR
2. Allow the plane to continue to Mexico, get the 2 terrorists, shoot them on the Tarmac.
Either way, find a nice clean piece of tarmac and waste 'em on the spot. :)
So why didn't our wonderful neighbors to the North instruct the plane to land in Canada, deplane the suspects for US custody, and let the rest continue on their way?
Hmm.
I'll bet the inconvenienced passengers on that flight are hopping mad.
May your name accidentally appear on a terrorist watch list soon.
Perhaps this was a word of warning to the Dutch authorities that they'd better tighten their airport security or more of their planes will make unnecessary and very expensive round-and-round trips on their dime.
I don't think ryan71 is a flight school friend of the late hijacker Hani Hanjour, so it's unlikely he'll find his name on the same list these gentlemen did.
Gee, I wonder why they were going to Mexico? Could it be they were going to enter the US from the border? Nah!
Terrorist don't enter from the southern borders... Only honest, hardworking migrants. (sarcasm/off)
But possibly it's the same name as someone's who was....
The same question could be asked of the US.
Given the experience of 9/11, I think the idea is to keep terrorists out of the US, and its airspace.
