DeLay's Backers Launch Offense
Washington Post ^ | April 10, 2005 | Mike Allen

Posted on 04/09/2005 7:56:45 PM PDT by FairOpinion

Officials working with DeLay said he is trying to lock in support by sowing the message that an attack on him is an attack on the conservative movement, and that taking him out would be the Democrats' first step toward regaining control of the House and Senate. These officials said they believe the attacks are part of a strategy by Democrats, aided by watchdog groups funded by liberals, to use the ethics process to try to regain power.

At the same time, DeLay is continuing his high-decibel comments -- including his warning last week about "a judiciary run amok" -- on the theory that he is going to remain himself and not bend to the opposition, friends say.

If the Democrats could rally behind a sleazy rat like clinton, then I don't see why the Republicans can't rally behind one of their own for a change

Careful how you phrase that. A quick read infers that if desm can back a sleeze, then so can we.

First off please do not call me a moron or any other names.

"that he runs it the House Republicans!!!"

True he is the leader of the House Republicans. But, he is first and for most a political activist who wins elections and organizes forces and raises money, very effectively. I believe it would be better for everyone if he went full time into that role.

"That's not his job, that's *our* job. cancel your MSM newspaper subscription and get a "National Review" subscription."

Well guess what, we are not doing a good job of it! This needs to be priority number 1 and it needs to be done by someone who is a top political operative and it needs to be highly organized. And I just think that if Delay or someone like him (I don't know who else), would devote themselves to it,(full time) it could be done. He will be in a better position then if he were in congress and being a lightning rod.

Most Republicans don't view the MSM as truth anymore; they're just the opposition media.

True, and very hope-inspiring.

Yet I was discouraged at home many, even here, accepted everything the MSM said about Terri Schiavo and never looked at the other side. ("She's brain-dead! There have been 100 hearings already! 80% of all Americans say to 'let' her die [i.e. starve her to death]! Everyone hates what Congress and the President tried to do for her!")

To hear some posters here, it was as if Memogate and the last 13 years had never happened.

You are right. Terri Schindler (Schiavo's) death was ghastly, painful and towards the end of the crime, she was gasping for air like a fish out of water and looked like a victim of the Holocaust.

AMERICA, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???????

...when it looked like Lott might not jump, we pushed him. We thought we were gonna get New Senate Leadership with a spine. Live and learn...

Yes, Frist has been a real disappointment. My own enthusiasm for his replacing of Trent Lott now seems embarassingly naive.

It's true there are still many 'legacy' Republican senators, used to retreating when Democrats charge, and their fearfulness of offending the 'mighty Democrats' could make them hard to lead, but Frist could have been much more agressive. Instead, he deferred to their fears.

And he is thinking about 2008? Does he imagine there is a constituency for weak leadership? After George Bush?

When is somebody going to do the math on the "concern" about his wife and daughter earning "HALF A MILLION DOLLARS" working on his campaign?

$20,000 per year
2 people
13 years
$520,000
Big deal!

Of all the Republicans who seemed to be concerned about Terri, Tom DeLay was the ONLY one I believe was FOR REAL. His being a target just confirms my belief.

DeLay needs to stay right where he is is until he picks up enough momentum to steam roll these murdering judges and liberal death mongers.

No, you are not a moron, but in response to your unwise suggestion that DeLay step down, I did say "What a moronic statement", and I stand by it. A desire to do the Liberal Democrats bidding on this and seek to end DeLay's Congressional career prematurely would be BAD FOR CONSERVATIVES. If you dont 'get it', you've not been paying attention.

"This (media issues) needs to be priority number 1"

Well, then get to it ... IMHO, House majority leader is a pretty important job too, and I dont want the man who has saved Conservative causes time and time again to be let go, now.

"And I just think that if Delay or someone like him (I don't know who else), " ... Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, JC Watts, and a host of others are doing what you propose, every day. Rush and the blogosphere both do more each day than *any* ex-Congressman alone could hope to do in a year on this.

Your suggestion is akin to telling a football team to retire their star quarterback so that he can take up the important game of golf.

"He will be in a better position then if he were in congress and being a lightning rod."

If our leaders made the Liberals happy ... THEY WOULDN'T BE DOING THEIR JOBS!!

We must insist that the whole Schiavo case be brought
before Congress. Corrupt Judicial, law enforcement and
politicians - this mess must be cleaned up.

By the way, Senator King who voted NOT to help Terri -
guess who contributed to his campaign? None other than
the insurance company in which Michael Schiavo is on the
board of directors.

And Sheriff Rice who stopped the initial police investigation and who hired Michael as nurse at the jail.

We can go on and on!
