Khatami "highly lunatic" any meeting with the Israeli president

TEHERAN - Iranian president Mohammad Khatami "highly contradicted" information of the Israeli media according to which it had tightened the hand and had briefly spoken to the Israeli president in the Vatican at the time of the funeral of Jean Paul II, Saturday paid the official agency Irna.

"These allegations are false like all the allegations (Israeli media) and I did not have any meeting with a personality of the mode Zionist", declared Mr. Khatami on his return in Teheran.

The Israeli media affirmed Friday that at the end of the ceremony in the Vatican, the Israeli president, of Iranian origin, exchanged some words into Persan with president Khatami and the two men chattered a few minutes, evoking their common birthplace in Iran, the town of Yazd, located close to Ispahan, in the center of Iran.

"We repeated with many recoveries that morally and logically, we do not recognize the existence of the State of Israel (...) which was creates by the force and the usurpation" of the rights of the Palestinians, it added.

Iran's Khatami denies handshake with Israeli leader

TEHRAN, Apr 9 (Reuters) Iran's President Mohammad Khatami denied reports he shook hands with the president of Israel at Pope John Paul's funeral, the official IRNA news agency said today.

Iranian-born Israeli President Moshe Katsav said he shook hands with the leaders of Syria and Iran at the funeral yesterday, when hundreds of international dignitaries gathered at the Vatican to pay homage to the late Pope.

But Khatami denied this. ''I strongly deny shaking hands, meeting and talking to the Israeli president,'' Khatami told IRNA after his return from Italy.

I'll give the late Pope credit -- at least he got the whole bunch within a few square meters of each other without God... Allah ... Jehovah... blasting the spot off the face of the earth.

I watched the Pope's funeral on Mexican television, and I could swear I saw Katami acknowledge the Israeli President with a slight nod of the head, though I didn't see them shake hands... but progress is slow.
