"Girl of the Limberlost"

####

Gene Stratton Porter

My most favorite book of all (childhood) time - perhaps a shrink could say what that tells about me. I just found a paperback copy on the sale table at my local library - scooped it up and asked the librarian why in the world they would want to withdraw it from the library. She gave me a look of total incomprehension, so I guessed she has never read it.

Enjoyed the books more as an adult after visiting the Limberlost in northern Indiana....Porter was part of the inspiration to make me the "naturalist" I am....The other influence, my mother was also inspired by GSP. Mother taught me all the trees, birds, wildflower, butterflies names at a very young age....Can't remember not knowing them. GSP was one of her role models.

Librarians tend to withdraw books that are worn and damaged. If it is a classic book, like "Girl of the Limberlost" they would order another copy, perhaps with a library [more durable] binding.
Doesn't matter how wonderful the book is, if it is worn out it goes. May be replaced if they can find another edition, but it is gone.
