I am against persecuting people who are different. They have as much right to live full lives free from fear and intimidation as anyone. It is their God-given right.

However, I do not want someone to force me to accept a behavior that I find personally repellant. I also do not want this behavior taught to my children as "normal." It is not "normal." If it were "normal" the human race would have ceased to exist long ago.

I do not consider homosexuals to be "queer." That phrase is objectionable. Labeling reduces people to things and then it is all too easy to commit very bad acts that are against human decency.

We need to make a distinction between people and behavior. It is certain kinds of behavior that are objectionable. The person is who he is. It is the act that matters.

I thought the word queer was a little derogatory myself, but some homosexuals refer to themselves as queer and then there are places like queer.com and queer.net and queer.org... and other sites.

Still, I don't think I've ever used the word queer myself. I don't consider homosexuals to be gay either, and try to remember to use the word homosexual instead. Well, sometimes I say ex-gay instead of former homosexual, but I prefer the latter...

Agreed.

Actually, many homosexuals take pride in being queer. It's certainly not objectionable to them. For example:

'Queer' Teens Invited to Share Their True Stories

And they even write books about it:

Queering Elementary Education

Do a Google search on Queer Studies and then search again on Queer Theory and see how many colleges and university have actual "Queer" programs.

They are here and they are queer and they have said so.

The prolem occurs when people, such as most or many homosexuals (at least the vocal ones) DO identify themselves as their sexual desires and practices. They call themselves "queer", and they're proud of it. Reacting to that is not bigotry, it's reality.

Many homosexuals use the term to describe themselves, so they don't think it's objectionable.

And educated people know the definition of queer can mean different things, mainly "different" so they don't consider it objectionable either.
