NEWS RELEASE: POPE’S BURIAL ENDS THE LULL—STORM COMING ["the Left is ready to explode"]
CatholicLeague.Org ^ | April 8, 2005 | William Donohue

Posted on 04/08/2005 7:23:59 AM PDT by fight_truth_decay

Catholic League president William Donohue remarked as follows:

“The storm is about to hit. For the most part, anti-Catholic bigots and the disaffected dissidents within the Church have been quiet. What they have been waiting for is about to happen: the week between the end of the mourning and the beginning of the conclave is upon us. And that means the Left is ready to explode.

“Consider what we’ve heard already. Amidst the mostly favorable coverage by the media of Pope John Paul II, he has been branded as follows: an authoritarian who seeks to silence dissent; the enemy of homosexuals; a misogynist; a polarizing figure; a man who is out of touch with the modern world; a contributor to death due to AIDS in Africa; responsible for the sexual abuse scandal; and so on.

“And we’ve heard a CBS newsperson blast the pope for ruling the Church with ‘an iron fist’ (this was said between the final four basketball games on Saturday); the Jewish Forward said whatever good he did may be undermined by his ‘battles around the world for sexual repressiveness and against reproductive freedom’; the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis posted a sign on its property saying, ‘ALL WELCOME, CHRIST IS ALIVE, THE POPE IS DEAD’; the president of the J. Paul Getty Trust commented on ‘the spectacle of grotesquerie and human ruin that has lately filled the balcony above St. Peter’s Square’; Christopher Hitchens said he was ‘part of the coverup and obstruction of justice’ attendant to the homosexual scandal; Sister Helen Prejean, who is soft on abortion, took him to task for not changing his mind soon enough on capital punishment (and in doing so managed to misrepresent his pronouncements on the subject—the pope never said it was an intrinsic evil like abortion); and a website called ‘HillaryNow,’ operated by Robert Kunst, said that when the pope went to Israel, he ordered an ambulance to follow him so that in the event he needed a transfusion, he would not have to access ‘Jewish blood.’

“But this is nothing. Many have been waiting for this moment for more than a quarter century. When they lose again, watch out.”

Too late at least on FR, as the anti-Catholics have been out in full force heaping their vile slime all over the Pope and the Church.

No, I thank you for the clarification and confirmation that his first name was pronounced Karl. My paternal family is of Polish extraction, and my great grandfathers name was Karl, and he came to the US from Hungary. My Grandfather's name was Charles and this indicated to me that Karl is the eastern european way of spelling and pronouncing Charles, without the "s" in the French style. Looking at the name Karol, it suggested to me that in Polish, the name would be pronounced very close to Karl.

I'm interested in comparative linguistics. I'm interested in European culture too, but I don't/won't glorify its bloody, blighted history the way the PC liberals do.

And also for AIDS, because he doesn't advocate teaching African men to wear condoms when they rape women.

Isn't that what the good deacon advocates?

This is why I hate the whole structure of the Catholic church. Way too much power that will be dangerous if the left ever got control of it. Luckily it was in good hands with John Paul II.

But look at the moral decay and theological chaos of the Protestant churches, which for the most part are not as hiearchical as the Catholic Church.

Thankfully we have the Holy Spirit to keep us from going over the edge, until the end of time.

What can you say about a cult founded by a disgruntled employee and a whore he took for a wife?

So he's a filthy pervert seeking justification for his vile, unhygienic, body-wrecking, disease-spreading, soul-destroying "life"style? Explains a lot.

"Too late at least on FR, as the anti-Catholics have been out in full force heaping their vile slime all over the Pope and the Church."

I read a couple of these threads yesterday. I have never seen such arrogance, mean-spiritedness, and hatred from people who claim to be "true Christians."

Golly the Jesuits suck (I can say that, I was Jesuit-educated).

The leftists don't believe in non-earthly power so they'll try to infiltrate the Church.

Even a pimple will burst under its own weight. I wonder if apocalyptic theorists will get an education on what our deceased Pope described as God's infinite Divine Mercy. My best guess is that the MSM and liberal left will decline to what might be similar to a Jerry Springer episode. Sure, there's a storm coming, but it's probably going to implode rather than explode.

The only thing I will disagree with you on is that the Church will die...the Church will NEVER die, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. Those who have injured her will, but the Church itself never will. God bless.

I remember when my daughter was in Catholic school and there were many non-Catholics that would send their children as well. When their little John or Hillary couldn't behave or perform according to the rules they would storm in demanding the school conform to the child or their wishes. The administrators and volunteer parents would say "a Catholic education isn't for everyone".
Maybe, the Catholic Church isn't for everyone, perhaps they need to reevaluate their choices. Maybe, just maybe, you need to make a conscious choice about your FAITH. The Church embraces you, but you must embrace the Church as well.
(I must also say this applied to some of the CINO's as well).

I do not consider myself to be infallible, nor do I consider the Pope to be so.

The journey to Christ is paved with suffering.
Join Christ by taking up the CROSS. Do we have the courage to do it? I hope so. I also hope we capture those 'weeds' along the way and change their hearts. They are God's children. Many are faced with suffering and questioning of God. John Paul II reminded us to "be not afraid". I can't express the comfort that gives me.
Maybe the true mission of Christ was not to alienate those who do not embrace the truth, but to captivate them with it.
(Hence the constant reference to being fishers of men... fishing.. tease them, hook them, capture them to the truth).
