That poor woman down in Florida is dead but the exploitation may be eternal.
The Terri Schindler-Schiavo Foundation, "dedicated to protecting" Terri Schiavo's life and liberty, is re-dedicating itself to "assisting other desperate families in their efforts to protect vulnerable loved ones." You can, of course, continue to contribute your dollars. Just visit www.terrisfight.org and click on the "donations" link. PayPal works.
The website promises there will soon be updates on how the foundation will go about "assisting other desperate families." I don't suppose "leaving them alone" is among the options being considered.
Thought not. Once there's been a media circus big enough to tear the Rev. Jesse away from that other Jackson's superstar trial, there's no choice but to try again. So, if your family is among the tens of thousands that will face a when-and-how-to-die decision sometime soon, and if you'd like to circus to come to you, just let the foundation know.
Too cynical, you say? Maybe, but I'd say I'm just "consider(ing) all the evidence in the light of reason, common sense and experience," just like judges instruct jurors to do when they deliberate a verdict.
Speaking of judges, the much maligned and threatened George Greer simply followed the law as it exists, applied sworn facts as presented in court by all parties and made his decision. He then refused to be influenced by the mob in the streets or the ones in the legislative chambers. What more can you ask of a judge?
Not much, said the Clearwater Bar Association in praising his courage in the face of death threats and endless vilification.
You should read his 2000 order in the case that spawned the controversy. He discusses in detail the central issue; that is, what would be Terri's wishes, and how he came to decide she would not want to be kept alive in the circumstances. He also deals with the medical evidence, as presented in sworn testimony, which is different than the many affidavits you can find at www.terrisfight.org . These inevitably include the phrase, "I have not physically examined Ms. Schiavo..." and/or "I have not seen her medical records..."
Do the reading, then apply your own reason, common sense and experience.
If you still think Judge Greer's the villain, fine. Join the move to impeach him. Me, I think he kept his head when all about him, others were losing their's. That makes him a hero in a story way short on those.
I was too busy trying to open my air sickness bag to put a "bark alert" on the headline.
I was too busy trying to open my air sickness bag to put a "barf alert" on the headline.
I think the article needs a koolaid alert. Greer never physically examined his victim either.
Here we go.
The only thing this article is good for is use in an outhouse.
Anyone know where one can "do the reading?"
Impeach Judge Greer?
Naw. That would be letting him off too easily.
Sorry, I will never accept a death sentence of dehydration and starvation. If he was so sure that she wished to be dead, why not show pity for the innocent woman and euthanize her like a serial murderer?
If he is so sure, why will Greer not open the case files under a state FOIA as a south FL newspaper requested?
And that no more an absolute then "I simply followed orders"
One word: Shylock.
" The only thing this article is good for is use in an outhouse." The only problem is my printer can't use sandpaper.
I don't suppose "leaving them alone" is among the options being considered.
Greer certainly didn't consider this option with Terri.
Had he left her alone for her family to love and take care of he would have been a hero. Now he is just another murderer and hopefully will be tried as such.
Could it be that the law specifically allows for the Husband to make the decision as a right reserved to the individual under the Constitution?
Conservatives should be relived that the government it self acknowledged that its powers were limited by the Constitution, that the Congress the Governor and even the President himself could not over run the legal decision made by a mere citizen.
Although this standard of proof may be met where the evidence is in conflict, In re Guardianship of Browning, 543 So. 2d 258, 273 (Fla. 2d DCA 1989), approved, 568 So. 2d 4 (Fla. 1990), it seems to preclude evidence that is ambiguous.
I notice that while the author has no trouble kicking the Schindlers in the stomach, implies they are greedy for beginning a foundation in Terri's name (like there aren't thousands that formed that will never hit a wire story), and decries a "circus" in which, as a member of the media, he serves as a clown, he doesn't have anything to say about Michael Schiavo and the Ghoul of his dreams, George "She collapsed from bulimia but looks REALLY hot when she doesn't eat at all" Felos.
As I said in another thread, if watching Felos in his post-mortem press conference didn't make your skin crawl, you're a skeleton!
Somehow "relief" is not what comes to mind when the State has the power to starve its citizens to death.
Nope. The various opinions and pleading make that clear. The object is to discern and apply the patient's wishes.
I not only believe that judge greer is a hero, I believe that he is a clod blooded murderer.
I did join the move to impeach him.
He is a hero to the death culture crowd.
The problem I have with the death culture crowd is they want o kill everyone but themselves.
If they only killed themselves ,I would not care.
But they only desire to kill the helpless, unborn and partially born children , and the infirm and crippled.
That I have a problem with.
