Study: Half Of Sexually Active Young People Get STDs

POSTED: 7:30 am CDT April 5, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A new study suggests 50 percent of sexually active young people will contract a sexually transmitted disease by the time they're 25.

Dr. James Allen, president the nonprofit group American Social Health Association, said our nation fails to address the problem of STDs in young people.

He said about two-thirds of young people assume they're being tested for STDs during regular health visits when, in fact, such testing is not routine.

Allen also said many STD cases go undetected because some of the symptoms are mild, such as in chlamydia. He said chlamydia untreated can cause pelvic inflammatory disease in women and sterility.

Allen said young people should be educated more on the dangers of contracting STDs and how to protect themselves. And health care providers should make STD screening readily available to sexually active young people.

That can't be - we've taught them how to use condoms!

Okay, now it's time for the stupid question of the decade:

How many of the non-sexually active young folks get STDs? Perhaps there's a correlation between promiscuity and STDs?

They need to show these youngsters graphic pictures of what STD's look like and can do to you body. They also need to tell them that some of them can NEVER be cured. I think many teenagers think they can just take a pill and it will be over.

Yeah. Or pregnant, since obviously pregnancy is something over which a woman has no control.

"That can't be - we've taught them how to use condoms!"

True, but those lessons were in public scruels. All the students were taught was how to put a condom on a cucumber. Since virtually none of them data cucumbers, the lessons were a waste of taxpayer money.

Condom use does not prevent the most common STD: HPV or genital warts. It would seem that (when used in properly & in monogomous relationships) condoms may be more effective as "birth contol" than to prevent diseases.

This CANNOT be reported by the MSM. There are NO consequences to sex with many partners. It's just a way of life and funny, like with our favorite characters on 'Friends,' 'Will & Grace' and 'Sex and the City.'

And if you get pregnant, you just take a pill the next day and everything will be okay. At least that's what Hillary and Patty Murray want us to believe.

Yeah, but no one made them readily available...

And what about the diseases which aren't so readily apparent? HIV takes some time to develop, doesn't it? And knowing how young people think (some things never change), they figure it won't happen to them. And our culture keeps right on promoting promiscuous behavior without consequences.

That's because the young people don't know about the magic of condoms ... we've obviously been avoiding the subject all these years.

You just can't argue with logic like that, so I won't even attempt it.

Oh, like water is wet? LOL!

Dr. James Allen, president the nonprofit group American Social Health Association

"Non profit' is MSM language for 'taxpayer funded', so all I want to know is how much of OUR money was given to people who are so stupid they have to STUDY the fact that sex causes sexually transmitted diseases??

That's right - condoms are good, abstinence is bad. See there - I went to public school too.

Wait until these health care costs start kicking in. Then there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth for more and higher taxes. It will be the government's responsibility to fix the problem - should be about time for Hillary Care and then, teotwawki.
