Hey fellow Freepers, I just wanted to post a brief report regarding the small base I am currently at and the great individuals that operate in and around this place.

The troops' morale is really great and I am with tons of the stop-loss crowd, so I speak the truth. The very few dissenters are actually disgruntled people that originally thought of the military as a different form of welfare, so therefore, they are shunned by the many.

A friend (DAC) recently returned from Iraq with a report. He had interviewed soldiers involved in a convoy ambush a short time ago. It was a serious ambush, and the people involved here were driving a semi. The ambush was initiated with a mortar and RPG barrage, one of the mortar rounds impacting on the hood near the windshield. The explosion shattered the glass and sent shrapnel into the driver and co-driver. An armor piercing round went through the driver’s legs and an AK round grazed the co-drivers head.
The driver yelled “We’re gonna die!”, and turned into the fire. The co-driver kicked out the remains of the windshield and leaned out with his SAW, firing at the muzzle flashes.
Score:
Americans – 6 wounded.
Iraqis – 26 dead.

I was an Army Medic from 69-77 and your report brings back
memories of the way it was then. I drove a meatwagon/Crackerbox and we appriated a term made popular
by the Tank corps in WW Twice "Drive On"-- I salute you,Sir
