Well, I'm glad he came clean. Honesty hurts sometimes, but it is the best policy.

Ah...The Stupid Party strikes again. How many ways can GOP Senators implode so that we end up with a bunch more leftist judges appointed to the bench?

Mr. Martinez added: "[...]As the senator, I am ultimately responsible for the work of my staff and the product that comes out of this office. I take full responsibility for this situation." "...and that's why I am announcing my resignation..."
Oh, wait...that went out when Janet Reno came in.

Stupid, stupid aide. It never, ever, occured to me to think in terms of political advantage in regards to Terri.

In his statement, Mr. Martinez said that on March 9 he had mistakenly and unknowingly handed the document to Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa, on the floor of the Senate. Does that seem believable? Pardon my tin foil, but is it at all possible that Martinez is for some reason trying to help the Washington Post maintain what's left of its credibility or to hurt the credibility of blogs by admitting to something he didn't do?

This, after hearing earlier today that 55 Republican Senators disavowed creating the memo.

Then again, what is in the memo that is particularly bad? Time was of the essence and getting 50 plus Senators on board in a hurry was critically important. It is extremely naive to think that our good Senators don't take the political pulse of any issue. If Mel's staff came up with a list of arguments that could be used to help move the Senate to keep Terri alive, so be it. Lord knows the other side was rigging polls to convince us otherwise. Which is worse, reminding Senators of how the issue will play with the base or falisfying public opinion polls to make false arguments? The former, if you are a Republican I guess.

Senator Mel Martinez, Republican of Florida,These are the first words of the New York Times' report. Did you ever see the New York Times so quickly, in any story about a scandal involving a Democrat politician, identify the politician as a Democrat so quickly? Usually, you need to scan the story all the way to the bottom to find out that the scandal-plagued politician is a Democrat.

"The anonymous memorandum, which was distributed to news organizations by Democratic aides and first reported by ABC News...
...was written by a politically driven GOP hack flack for Sen. Mel Martinez and will dominate the news for at least a week.
