Yeah, that's about right. I think the only difference is that my mother bought the 2600 when I was 10, and I bought my PS2 when I was 30. But yeah the prices are comparable.
You know, I bought a couple PS2 games that are compilations of earlier games/systems. I don't have an Atari one (yet), but I have an Intellivision one, and a Midway ("Joust", "Paperboy", "Defender", et al). I want the Activision one (yeah, "Pitfall").
S'funny to have a reasonably modern system to play ancient games on.

I love Adventure! IIRC, it only took 4K to program the game, an amazing feat for a game of it's complexity. There is a DOS/PC game called "Indenture" out on the net that emulates the original game as well as the author added many, many levels to the game. May you find the Golden Chalice and keep an eye out for that @@#&$ bat!

Oh, and to add a game that I think was so great that it should be honored in it's own thread... it wasn't for the 2600, but it was old enough to come on 5 1/4" floppies.
Anyone remember Starflight? And it's sequel, Starflight 2?
GOD, were those games awesome. What I wouldn't give for another sequel... I wouldn't even care if they didn't update the graphics one whit, as long as the plot and storyline were of the same quality as in the originals.

Q,
That was "Pitfall"- a personal fave.
A few years ago a friend and I were cracking each other up imitating that game's sound effects: "enh" "ehn an ehn na".

If you go back and play some of those games, you realize how far gaming technology has evolved.
A stroll down memory lane is great, but the new adventure games are awesome. I expect AI and VR games to be just around the corner....

Adventure(or similar) was originally on mainframes. We had it on ours at college.

BTW, one of the neatest thing about the bat is when you get eaten by a dragon and the bat picks up the dragon, you can go for a ride while it its stomach and you can even have (some) control to where you can go.

One more thing, "It's Hip To Be Square" applies to this game. B-)

I saw this screen many times as the game, to me, was not fully won until you a.)did everything you had to do to see the easter egg and b.)slayed all the dragons and c.)brought the chalice back to the castle.

So who here also played an even earlier game, Rogue (on a VAX 11/780, no less), and loved it? ;)
I did play Moria on a VaxServer 3400, does that count? B-) BTW, I have a version of Moria on my Palm too.

Ah, you young whippersnappers... when I was young, we used to have to fight real dragons... none of this video game nonsense!

I loved playing Adventure. I would work to get all the objects in the main castle before carrying the chalice in. If I remember correctly, you could even get the dragons stuck in the castle.
I can't believe how many times I played that game.

I still have an Intellevision with about 50 games, including Intellivoice and B-17 bomber.

My other favorite game for the 2600 was an Activision product... the one where you were in the jungle, jumping on crocodile heads and swinging over vines. I'm not saying it had the long list of qualities that Adventure had, but it had great graphics (for the 2600) and was just great fun for me.
Pitfall was fun too, I enjoyed the croc/gator heads when they opened up their mouths in unison, they were The Borg even before the Borg came along. FYI, the secret is to stand on their eyes, even when they open their mouths, you will not fall in. One thing that always got me were the fires set by some deranged Boy Scout (no offense to the sane Boy Scouts out there B-)) and the scorpions underground.

I absolutely loved "Enchanter". The hardest one though was Suspended". Never did finish that one. I may have to go into the cellar and hook up my Atari 800xl and boot it up and give it another shot. I've got the whole library available on PC, and you can play them with a simple downloadable emulator.

B-17 Bomber was great. All that flak coming at you, LOL!
There was also a Naval game for Intellivision that was very cool.
It's been a while.
Arioch7 out.
