TN Gov. Bredesen urges Dems to look past Hillary for President

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen is raising eyebrows by urging Democrats to look beyond Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D.N.Y., for the 2008 White House race.

The popular governor and potential dark-horse presidential candidate said people want "something different" and that voters are "kind of dissatisfied" with all current Democratic 2008 prospects, according to the London Sunday Times.

"People love [Clinton] or they hate her, and I don't know in the end how all that plays out. But I sure hope there are other people who would step forward," Bredesen said in an interview that underscores concerns among party centrists that Clinton would have trouble appealing to rural and Southern voters, the New York Post said Tuesday.

Bredesen spokesman Lydia Lenker didn't dispute the quotes, but said they were "taken out of context," adding the interview was about the Democrat Party's future. "He wasn't out to say anything bad about Sen. Clinton," Lenker said.

Bredeson has been a very solid, conservative governor, out of the Zell Miller mold.

Nice save. But, the honorable Gov. from Tennessee should stay away from small planes.

"Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen is raising eyebrows by urging Democrats to look beyond Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton"

I guess this means that the NOT MAKING EYE CONTACT rule is still in place.

Wow ...it gets real difficult to not make eye contact with a CONGENITAL HEAD BOBBER.

Just focus on the CANKLES and try not to puke.

I semi agree. He is fiscally prudent. I can't speak to his social or free market views, but he has played hardball with the Tenncare lobby and their lawyers.

This guy scares me; sounds like he gets it.

LOL ... so true. But the Clinton legacy project is too vast and powerful for it to make any difference that a few Dems get it.

The left drank the poisen brew of Bill and Hill years ago. For the ambition of two sociopaths, the left gave up control of their party. And all because B&H could lie cleverly enough to make themselves palatable to some part of the nonleft.

As low as Americans regard most politicians, the mushy middle regards these two as lower. And it is the mushy middle which elects.

Having placed their ambitions, status, vaunted principles and fate into the hands of these Arkansas travelers, the left cannot now get out of it.

When Clinton agreed to give up the federal welfare entitlement, and only poor Marian Wright Edelman and brilliant Patrick Moynihan protested, we then knew that Mephistopheles had his victory.

Forget about the rape and harassment of women by B&H ... and the hypocritical silence/defense of the left ... those women were only expendable human beings, their expenditure quite consistent with the philosophy of the left.

But the retreat of power represented by giving up the entitlement, for the sake of ambition ... what an offensive insult to the core of leftist spirituality.

B&H said to the left, put ice on it, and the left has had frozen lips ever since.

DJ, I think your main duty on this board now until 2008 is to educate Freeperville about Pharaoh Phil. The news media is going portray him as a Zell Miller type RAT. Of course, the MSM will overlook the fact that Pharaoh Phil is originally from Kennedy-Kerryland as an effort to make him appealing to the Red States.

The media won't have much work to do, Bredesen goes on conservative talks shows on his own, and unlike alot of other dems, is very very good at meeting with, talking to, and discussing issues with conservatives.

He's scary in that some conservative hosts in his state, do like him personally, and agree and disagree with him on some issues.

That makes him a threat, the MSM can do simple cut and paste from conservatives and use it, I've posted articles on him, half the freepers generally speak positivly about him.

He knows what he has to do to win elections, but if he was ever POTUS, there is no doubt he's start going left by nature.

Bredesen is a prick. The London Time article goes on to say how Bredesen was responsible for changing Nashville from a "backwater town to a cultural center". Like we were a bunch of barefoot rednecks 'til Bredesen came from the big city up north to give us some culture. About the only thing Bredesen did for Nashville was load it up with debt as he kissed the asses of professional team owners and showered them with taxpayer money to get them to come to Nashville.
