SEMTEX SEIZED IN NORTHERN FRANCE WAS FROM BOSNIA: JUSTICE OFFICIALS

PARIS, April 4 (AFP) - A haul of some 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of Semtex explosives seized at the weekend by French police in the northern town of Hazebrouck came from Bosnia and was destined for the criminal underground, justice officials said Monday.

Five people were detained after the Czech-made explosives, along with a stock of detonators, were found on Saturday concealed in a lorry containing metal parts bound for a company in the area.

Three were arrested at the scene and two others -- the suspected purchasers of the Semtex -- were detained later in Paris. The ring-leader was a former Bosnian soldier, Le Parisien newspaper reported.

The seizure was ordered by a Paris magistrate as part of an investigation opened last month into organised crime. According to sources close to the enquiry, the explosives were due to be delivered to Paris, but the judge decided to take preemptive action.

The explosives may have come from Bosnian army stocks, justice officials said. They were brought by road to France via Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Belgium.

Police have long expressed concern that supplies of arms and explosives reaching criminal gangs in France are being supplied from the former Yugoslavia.

A kilogram of Semtex can fetch up to 4,000 euros (5,150 dollars) on the black market, Le Parisien said. Investigators believe Saturday's haul was to be divided up and sold off in bits.

This Jusuf Prazina had a concentration camp for Serbs in Sarajevo [have Serb and non-Serb sources for this], and later when he went to Mostar to fight with the Croats, he and his men reportedly killed 700 Muslims.

In the "Viktor Bubanj" facility in Sarajevo many were murdered and otherwise abused. It had the distinction of being staffed with 20 mujahadeen guards (foreign Muslims).

As head of the BiH Army's paramilitary units, Juka became the warden of a prison camp set up in the Viktor Bubanj army barracks. The detention facility became known as «Viktor Bubanj», but was also called «Juka's Prison». Over 200 prisoners were held there and subjected to torture, hunger, and hard labour. The camp commander allegedly committed many criminal acts, including rape and murder. *119

Juka and his men reportedly conducted ethnic cleansing operations in Mostar after joining forces with the HVO. Juka's forces evicted, imprisoned, physically abused, and killed many civilians. The London Times reported in May 1993, that Juka and his men drove out every Muslim civilian living in Mostar on the west bank of the Neretva river to «deny vantage points to snipers». *121 Homes were looted and men were beaten up and arrested. *122 Witnesses stated that sometime before 15 July 1993, Juka's forces allegedly evicted the wealthy Muslim residents of Mostar from their apartments, which were then looted and turned over to members of the HVO paramilitary formations. According to reports, Juka's forces were masked and heavily armed when they surrounded the apartments. They then blocked exits, fired their weapons in the air, and demanded that all Muslim residents evacuate the building. *123 Witnesses stated that Juka and his men killed as many as 700 people in and around Mostar and that they ran detention facilities for Muslim civilians at the heliport outside the city. *124

The French are just sneaky. During the March 2004 pogroms against the Kosovo Serbs, many French who had been friendly with Serbs, decided not to do anything when the Albanians attacked. What kind of friends are the French? They betray everyone.
