"Our experience with Down syndrome babies is that they bring more love into the world than a normal child just by being who they are. Their personalities -- the way people react to them -- there is just an outpouring of love for these children. If we abort these children we are going to miss a lot of love in our world,"

I can personally attest to this. My mother's best friend was told by her doctor that she was having a Down's baby and asked her when she wanted to schedule the abortion. She left his office and never went back. She gave birth to her baby boy 20 years ago and he has been a constant delight to all who encounter him, this kid is so happy and loving it is infectious. The father was a very gruff even somewhat unemotional and often unpleasant man 20 years ago, not so today. The changes in his life have been wonderful to watch as he has grown into one of the most thoughtful loving men I have ever encountered. The kid will never be able to live independantly but that hardly seems worth the mention when around him, a really great person. He currently works in a pizza place but I keep telling his mother that they should get him a job as a councilor (for people with depression, low self esttem, who don't know love etc)

Our Down Syndrome baby, Maximilian Theodore, was born in 1986, February 14th to be exact. We didn't know anything about Down Syndrome, and the doctors were not very supportive or helpful, so we were a little fearful. We needn't have been. He was only in this world 2 1/2 years, but we can attest to the transcendent spirituality and love that he brought into our lives.

When my wife was pregnant with our next two children both doctors wanted a test for Down Syndrome. My wife, excoriating them in her inimitable way simply said, "What for? I'm not going to kill my baby!!" I was very proud of her.

Cordially,
