You obviously live in fairly large city---that's a lot of offenders for one zip code.

Actually not that big really. It is Reseda near Northridge CA. I looked up Northridge and there are only 9 offenders as opposed to my city next door which has 62 offenders. That is a very big difference.

I did a check and found out that my next door neighbor, and I mean right next door is a Child Rapist. GREAT! Thank God I've got a fence up. I'm going to circulate this around our neighborhood. It's a small neighborhood, very upscale, the only reason he lives there is because his then girl-friend (now wife) inherited a house (and all his cash) from an wealthy elderly man she was the primary care-giver for. Makes me sick.

Negative. There was a controversial case not too long ago about a high school kid who got tagged as a sex offender for having sex with his girlfriend. I would imagine such cases are in the minority, though.

Thanks for the Washington Link. It is more accurate and provides a map. I went from 0 for the link provided in post #1 to it showing 6 in my zip code with your link. Thankfully all are a mile or more away from my 3-year old boy.

I have a problem with the list, in that it groups everyone together. I think that sex offenders who made an "indecent solicitation of a minor" should be on the list. But someone who is arrested for having child pornography in a magazine or on his hard drive? Is there really evidence that someone who looks at these pictures is going to attack or solicit a child? And what about people who may have been guilty of statutory rape (having consensual sex with a minor)?

Putting too many people into the list may be diluting its effectiveness in enabling people to identify those who are most likely to pose a threat to their children.

I write this as a father of two daughters.

We pay for insurance to protect our "real property" each year. This $20 was a small amount to pay to keep an eye on the predators that could live near one. Different states offer information in different formats. As you will see in the posts above, the State links may offer more detailed information; while several FReepers found details from the referenced site I ran on this subject.

Remember from the recent Amber Alerts, the predators lived within pretty close proximity; even removing a child from their beds.

You comment on whether or not this was consensual sex..I guess an arrest was made and a conviction followed. If one carry the tag of sex offender, it is at least a red flag in my view. The courts thought there was a concern.

Again, read all the posts. You make the call of the importance. Combine your State search with the one above. Better safe then sorry. Of course, one cannot go harrass an individual they find on the above site, but they can be made aware of who is living near you and your family. That was my sole intention of running this piece to help those that were not aware like myself.
