Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Thomas Griffith, Utah---that is the name from your list!
I don't know where to go to get this info---maybe ya'll can help me---
Who has gone to Rome from the Senate and the House?
Did Hillbilly?
I am watching Chrissy Matthews right now and see--Mark Foley, Charlie Rangel (?), Peter King, Marcy Kaptur, --I don't think they are all Catholics
Shoot, Tx. I THINK I saw something earlier, but it's been such a nutty day and can't say where, or even if I saw anything for sure.
I'm not sure if Hellary went .. but yes, I think those on Chrissy's show are catholic (Teddy Kennedy catholic)
I just heard Rangel and Peter King disagreeing over what Jesus would be, democrat or Republican--- King pointed out that he was Catholic, kind of like Rangel isn't---
Peter King also had to tell Rangel that the funeral of the Pope was not the time or place to argue about what Jesus would want them to do...
Re: Rangel, I don't recall the part of the gospel that says we must turn over our money to the government so that it can do all that Christ called us to do. I hope someone calls them on this phony analogy.
Jesus believed in personal responsibility
It is up to us to help those in need
Not for the government to take our money and waste it
Shoot---If I saw Charlie Rangel right now, I'd tell him to put his money where his mouth is---
I bet he wouldn't even trade bank accounts with my husband and I, so I KNOW he is a total hypocrite!!!
King is right
There will be time later
But now is the time to honor a good man that has been called home to God
I don't know if any of ya'll are watching this, but on C-span is a LIVE interview with Roger Ailes---Chris Wallace, and Brit Hume in audience---
Marvin Kalb trying to get Ailes to admit that Fox is more opinion than news...
This is really good---Kalb is trying to get Ailes to say that Fox reporters are TOO patriotic--
Ailes said that he is pro-choice when it comes to flag pins in the lapel!!!! lol
I am now.
I caught most of it.
Very good.
HH: Senator, there's a lot of restlessness in my audience, and in the base as I'm sure you know, over when the Constitutional option will be tried. Senator Hatch gave such a marvelous speech about it. And the pressure is rising. What's your sense of the schedule.
JK: He did indeed. We're waiting to get the judges to the floor, who would be the subject of the procedure. They have to get through the Committee first, and then to the floor. And as the Democrats' usual tactic, they did not show up, not a one of them showed up today for the Judiciary Committee meeting at which at least one or two of the judges could have been passed on. They're already delaying and stalling, and they do that by not making a quorum. And at least one Democrat has to be there for a quorum, and none of them showed up today.
Thanks
If all other obstructionist tactics fail, we just won't show up for work.
Yeah, I saw a story about that after I shut down the ole computer and was laying in bed to watch the funeral of the Pope (which I slept through!)...
Those dems are so cute when they get this way, aren't they?/s
The problem is, they won't even pay a price for it--Hatch, Graham, Specter on the judiciary committee just WON'T get tough enough---
It's getting quite frustrating, is it not. It concerns me that folks won't be too excited about '06, but then, given what we've seen in Congress, why should they be.
I know what you mean---I got my "late notice" in the mail the other day for my RNC Membership dues--
I have had no desire to pay them until I see some of the things accomplished that were promised.
Of course the judicial nominees is first on my list, but also, some amendments have been added to bills that shouldn't have because some of the Republicans have voted for them. The most objectionable that come to mind right now is the one passed this week ---Babs Boxer's amendment regarding funding abortion information in foreign countries.
I HEARD on the Senate floor that Bush promised to veto the bill if that amendment was added. I guess the Reps that voted for it either don't BELIEVE that, or don't care that they just wasted a whole week working on a bill that will be vetoed anyway---and why in the heck would John Warner vote YES to contribute to abortions in foreign countries, anyway!!!!
Therefore, I feel that I have a choice---wait and see what happens until it is too late to salvage the REPS in 2006, or wipe my hands and start watching soap operas, OR try to get ahold of Ken Mehlman and warn him that there are a lot of people out in "fly-over" country that just may sit 2006 out, both financially and at the voting booth---
To make a short comment on your part, long,---is that what you were referring to?
And if so, what course do you think you are inclined to take?
