Cheney Opposes Retribution Against Schiavo Judges
Washington Post ^ | April 4, 2005 | Mike Allen & Brian Faler

Posted on 04/04/2005 8:06:29 AM PDT by tessalu

Vice President Cheney says he opposes revenge against judges for their refusal to prolong the life of the late Terri Schiavo, although he did not criticize House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) for declaring that they will "answer for their behavior."

Cheney was asked about the issue on Friday by the editorial board of the New York Post. He said twice that he had not seen DeLay's remarks, but the vice president said he would "have problems" with the idea of retribution against the courts. "I don't think that's appropriate," he said. "I may disagree with decisions made by judges in any one particular case. But I don't think there would be much support for the proposition that because a judge hands down a decision we don't like, that somehow we ought to go out -- there's a reason why judges get lifetime appointments."

The fact of the matter is Greer broke laws;

You've accused a sitting judge of an impeachable offense. Show me the court documents (inks to PDFs would be fine) where they petitioned for his disqualification based on prejudice, where it was denied, and where procedure wasn't followed. I'll read and get back to you.

...in order to kill one vegetable that few knew about until the media circus started.

Every politician in the country and every media organization was made fully aware of this more than two years ago. You can use the 'media circus' as your barometer of right and wrong if you want to they have no excuse.

The Florida Supreme court had no qualms about ignoring both the facts and the law and handing the nation over to the Gorons in 2000.The Florida Supreme court had no qualms about ignoring both the facts and the law and handing the nation over to the Gorons in 2000.

And guess what, they were overruled by the Supreme Court. That same court has been petitioned in this cas, what, three times?

Cheney is right. To the extent an error was made in this case, it was made by the state court judge(s), and its up to the people of Florida to correct it. Vote him/them out.

But to go after the federal judges in this case would be a very bad idea.

How easily you forget the Florida Supreme Kangaroo Court in 2000, which made up new laws as it went along.

This case involves far more courts than that.

No. Why don't you elaborate on the intent of 65% of the voters in that election?

If he pushes this too far, he could easily lose in 2006. """

Oh, but I thought - according to the liberals (like you?) - that DeLay and the GOP helped Terri for political reasons?

No doubt! They have ruled that it is no one's business but their own. It would be dangerous for anyone to contest them now.

I am kind of wondering what you guys would EXPECT Cheney to say??

I mean, seriously. Do you expect a sitting Vice President to step out on a crusade against judges? Seriously? Do you think a sitting official would come out to say that we must attack the rule of law?

It isn’t very likely, let’s be honest. No, very likely he personally feels that the judiciary is out of line, but he really is not in a position to lead an attack on the courts. He will leave that up to people freer to do so. Like we Freepers. Like GOP activists. Etc.

Cheney has been a fantastic VP and in this I cannot find fault with him.

"The legislature thought it was a good idea or it wouldn't be in the statutes. It really doesn't matter what I think."

Ah, but it IS NOT in the statutes, at least not the way you state it. Perhaps you should read 38.10 again. The whole thing, this time.

Yes just like there was no reason for him to give the woman a restraining order against her husband. Its okay that she was found stabbed to death by her husband shortly after that. Greer is the LAW right.

Some sheeple need to wake up here. This is not the type of democracy that other countries need to receive. It is a corrupted system.MCD

He did, IMO. But it's blowing up in his face.

He should drop this. He will not be supported by the White House or the Senate.

Perhaps you should have been reading them before spouting your wrong opinions about which you have no knowledge?

You may go to The Empire Journal or see court documents at Terris Fight.org to begin your homework. Of course, simply googling seach terms will help you find documents, easily, on the internet. I'm sure that task shouldn't be too difficult for one who is so knowledgeable.

Good precedent. Let's apply that to criminal cases too. One court, one judge, one decision.

There's a reason federal judges get lifetime appointments, but there's also reasons why Congress can impeach them and limit their jurisdiction.

You're getting way off the subject. They were losing long before the circus started. There is no reason for the entire judicial system of Florida to conspire to kill this one woman.

since when does holding judges accountable for their mistakes/malfeasance/arrogance get classified as "retribution"? Gotta love loaded questions from the MSM!
