Vice President Cheney says he opposes revenge against judges for their refusal to prolong the life of the late Terri Schiavo, although he did not criticize House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) for declaring that they will "answer for their behavior."
Cheney was asked about the issue on Friday by the editorial board of the New York Post. He said twice that he had not seen DeLay's remarks, but the vice president said he would "have problems" with the idea of retribution against the courts. "I don't think that's appropriate," he said. "I may disagree with decisions made by judges in any one particular case. But I don't think there would be much support for the proposition that because a judge hands down a decision we don't like, that somehow we ought to go out -- there's a reason why judges get lifetime appointments."

(Greer did issue an order that NO ONE was to feed her by mouth - or even give her ice chips or a wet wash cloth on her mouth to relieve the drying and cracking of her lips...

That quote isn't from any decision. It's from a concurring opinion and is irrelevant to the outcome of the case.

And who will play one for you when the backlash hits the polls and the likes of Hillary gets in? It is one thing to be upset withthe Schaivo case, but if you want to demonzie Florida, it will go blue in the next election. Like I said earlier, comments like "Nazis" and "death culture" are not making friends of many people down here. Greer had to decide based on what was presented at the initial trial. If the Schindlers had better legal and expert representation, it could have gone the other way. From what I understand here, if there is nothing in writing, the spouse makes the decisions. There was no judicial activism, no new law being created, but just a very unpopular decision. To say otherwise would imply that the entire legal system, federal and state, is not working properly. With the sheer volume of judges involved, I find that hard to believe. Cheney is right. You can't have a nation of laws if you want to go to war with those laws. Better laws are needed. The FL legislature was very sloppy with its late interventions.
Thank you for your comments. This is a very passionate topic for many people here. Legal decisions based on passion are not the wisest and the ad hominim attacks on FL are growing tiresome. As a FL resident, I have lots of complaints, but this one isn't in my top 10 list.
perhaps you are unfamiliar with all the laws Greer broke. You must have skipped over that part. When you're done with post #41, go to post #55.
I'm positive if Greer followed the law, the outcome would be that Terri wouldn't have been murdered by his order.

That was another poster who posed the question. You replied to that poster: us locals, who've been following the case for 10 years, supported Greer. People here think Michal Schaivo is a lout, but believe the law is on his side. The intervention of Jeb, the FL legislature and the federal government is DEEPLY resented. Also, the talk of FL and Pinellas Co as being some type of Nazi machine has deepened that resentment. "

Sorry for the mix up with the replies. For any one else following the conversation between maine-iac7 and myself, the ad hominims I quoted were not from maine-iac7. As per the comment of us locals, I am referring to the Tampa Bay area and Pinelas county in particular. Most of my friends are conservative Republicans and do not like the legislature and the federal government getting involved. It has made several republican supporters question their votes.
