If you think counseling works on a kid (teenager no less)afflicted with FAS/FAE and the brain abnormalities that result in ADHD behaviors- then you haven't tried to raise one.

There are a number who have noticed this trend and written about it, including testifying before Congress: Peter Breggin, Thomas Szasz, Thomas Armstrong and others.

I keep waiting for someone to notice the way the rash of school shootings the U.S. has experienced has coincided with the massive program of drugging "over-active" students or those deemed to have an "attention deficit."

The link doesn't work, so from the excerpt I see no where that these kids were ADHD. That said, I keep waiting for someone to notice the way the rash of school shootings in the U.S. has experienced has coincided with the massive program of uninvolved parenting.

I'm not convinced that the drugs have anything to do with these shootings. A more likely scenario is that the kids were screwballs to begin with.

ok, so you establisshed a correlation. you did NOT establish a cause.

there's a rooster on a farm near my dad's old home. every morning he climbs atop the barn and crows. then the sun comes up. therefore: there is a correlation between the rooster crowing and the sun coming up - there is NOT a cause/effect relationship.

lest we fall prey to the same junk science that infects the smoking situation.

it is easier for teachers and administrators to recommend drugging students who exhibit disruptive behavior or what, to a lay person, appears to be an emotional disorder.

Anybody notice anything wrong with this sentence?

Why do teachers have any say at all in "recommending" drugs?

Americans are paying too high a price for being subject to too many laws, too many rules, and too much regulation.

Ain't that the truth!

"Medicating students has replaced counseling"

Actually medicating students has replaced discipline. A few swats from the coach used to be worth a whole lot more than a dozen counseling sessions

The latest news on ritalin and adderall is that they are both in the same class of drug as cocaine and cause the same interference with endorphins, leaving the user with an inability to feel pleasure. The resulting depression or anxiety is then treated with another drug, like Zoloft or Prozac.
