JUDGE NOT Democrats have been patting themselves on the back lately that they have figured out how to better communicate with Red State America. You wouldn't have known it on Friday and Saturday, when congressional minority leaders, Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Nancy Pelosi refused to adapt the party's weekly radio address to the breaking news that Pope John Paul II was on his death bed.

"We had a plan in place for a national radio address that would have highlighted the Pope's stand on social justice and equality for all," says a Democratic National Committee staffer. "They wouldn't do it. They said it would look like pandering, that it wasn't helpful to their agenda."

Instead the Dems went with an odd radio address by former Democratic Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, in which he attacked Republicans for mulling use of a parliamentary rule that would allow the majority party to get judicial nominees approved by a mere majority of the Senate, instead of the 60 votes now required.

Mitchell, who in his days in the Senate was well known for stretching the truth to gain any little political gain, showed that retirement -- and his time in Hollywood -- had done little to dull his talents for prevarication. He claimed the Republicans were seeking to deny Senators a "voice" in the selection of judges, despite the fact that Democrats were blocking judges from getting a full hearing by the full Senate, as well as final up and down vote.

President Bush devoted his weekly radio address to praising the John Paul II, recalling the Pope's heroic charge for freedom and devotion to the culture of life.

Democrats around the country were said to be angry that Reid and Pelosi wasted an opportunity to show the party's faithful side to a nation that clearly would spend the weekend focused on the death of the Pope, and not judges.

Her Catholicism notwithstanding, Pelosi was especially adamant about pressing ahead with the political agenda, according to a House leadership staffer. "This wasn't counter-intuitive," says the staffer. "This was just being stupid and stubborn. It's another example of where we are going wrong as a party."

"This is another example of where we just don't get it," says a Democratic pollster in New York. "We knew the Pope was dying. We knew we had an opportunity, and we just ignore it and go ahead and act like the Democrats all those Red Staters think we are. We attack the Republicans for trying to save the Schiavo woman, and we ignore the Pope's passing. Somehow I know this is just going to come back and bite us in the ass."

This quote is just toooo funny.

Let's review the democrat stance on the issues of the day:

DNC point 1) "Starving cripples is fun"

DNC point 2) "Who's that Pope guy?"

Stupid and Stubborn sounds like a good description of the dems --and it came from one of them and they wonder why they are in a hole?

When you select stupid and stubborn people like Reid and Pelosi as your leadership, what else do you expect?

The Pope was a great man it does seem a shame that the only reason they think of the Popes death is as an opportunity .

They're idiots. Now all they accomplished here is making themselves seem completely out of touch with the news. If anyone really listens to these broadcasts, that I don't know. But if I heard something like that, with no mention of the Pope dying I'd figure it had been "in the can" for days, if not weeks.

You can tell that Reid is a dumb as dirt just by looking at him, but I thought Pelosi had some brains, but I've changed my mind. Good, just the kind of political geniuses we want in charge over there.

Remember, this is a party that has told Catholics, you're not welcome. And it will really come back to haunt them and it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of gonifs.

Pelosi is a Catholic in the same way three-quarters of the people in the country are "part Cherokee."

Even if they did not want to give the Pope his due in terms of religious leadership, can they simply ignore his activities to help with intall freedom around the world?

I mean just look at Poland before he was Pope and now. Regan and thater did a lkot or most of it but the constant and gentle influence of the Pope helped break barriers and walls as well. The dems and not just out of touch with Red States, they a missing century defining historical events. And I say this as a non-Catholic.

They are so stubborn they are not just ingmoring religion and faith, they are ignoring history. and BTW--that is the real Clinton legacy.

Dems now have to ignore history or resign themselves to its dustbin.

Mitchell, who in his days in the Senate was well known for stretching the truth to gain any little political gain, showed that retirement -- and his time in Hollywood -- had done little to dull his talents for prevarication.

-snip-

"This wasn't counter-intuitive," says the staffer. "This was just being stupid and stubborn. It's another example of where we are going wrong as a party."

"This is another example of where we just don't get it," says a Democratic pollster in New York. "We knew the Pope was dying. We knew we had an opportunity, and we just ignore it and go ahead and act like the Democrats all those Red Staters think we are.

Let's start at the beginning. The article conspicuously failed to mention that George Mitchell is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors for Disney. I wonder how the "journalists" happened to miss that point? They never seem to miss an opportunity to mention that VP Dick Cheney was once the head of Halliburton everytime that a Halliburton-bashing article appears.

Agenda, perhaps?

Secondly, I disagree with the staffer's comments. The Dems are continuing to successfully spread their message of hate, socialism and anti-Americanism very successfully. The Schiavo story is a perfect example of their ability to manipulate the news and obfuscate the truth.

I saw the democrap attack add featuring the supposed moderate republican yesterday. This is the one attacking the republicans for threatening to get rid of the filibuster which the moderate republican views as essential to our country's well being. Between that and the AARP ads against socialist security revision, I don't know whether to laugh or cry---or puke.
