OK. that's a fact, but it's worh mentioning and remembering, that it was John Paul II himself, who expressed - in the name of Roman Catholic Church - apologies for the action of it's sons, who committed sins against their Orthodox brothers in faith. It was during meeting with the Patriarch of Greek Orthodox Church.

Btw. - I would really like some of you to explain me what is all that problem with Catholic "prozelytising in Russia" about. I simply can't understand it.

I don't intent any kind of malice, but Otrhodox churches are active all around the world. In Western Europe and America too. In "ultra" Catholic Poland too (we have for example Orthodox chaplains in the Army). Some catholics happen probably to convert to Orthodoxy. Some (I've heard quite many) Protestans too (don't they, jb6? :-))). And it's OK, noone calls it Orthodox "prozelytising" in the West.

So what's the problem with activity of Catholic Church in Russia????? I really, really, really don't get it.

I don't care if the Catholics prostylize. That doesn't concern me in the least. What concerns me is when missionaries go in and spread lies. I know for a fact, haven spoken with some converts, that certain fundimentalists who go to Russia, Ukraine, etc spread out and out lies. What ticks me off too is their idea of charity. They'll put that bowel of soup out in front of the hungry poor guy and say: but first you'll listen to my sermon. Sorry, that's not charity.

I think what happened and why so many are sensitive to "poaching" is the moment that the Soviet Union openned up, everyone and their grandma with lots of cash ran in and started to try to convert people while spending tons of money to sway them. This left a bad taste in many Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians, etc mouths toward the West.
