Judge Greer was able to order this because it exists in the law an assumption that the husband (or spouse) is the one to make these decisions. Because there were other witnesses besides Michael (all Shiavos which should have been a factor but wasn't) to Terri saying she'd want to die, and the Doctors appointed saying she was in PVS, this was allowed to happen.

It was evil and wrong. But occurred more in a "loophole" of the law and because of bad circumstances for Terri. Such as big $ for Michael to hire to best lawyers and pro bono novices for the Schindlers. Combined with a pro death Judge Greer.

It all sucks but is not Nazi Germany. Not even close.

Not YET...

First the brain damaged, then the slightly brain damaged, then the disabled, then the "elderly" and that could be defined as anyone over 40, as the Supreme Court just decided in their allowing age discrimination suits, then those who are a trouble to the government, and on it goes.

I certainly hope we won't get to that, but nobody would have imagined, when Hitler got elected, how it will end up either.

The statements about Nazi-like behavior does NOT in any way intended to diminish the horrors of the Holocaust, it is pointing out the slippery slope.

Yes, but unless something is done to stop the deathmongers, future murders are going to be easier rather than harder to push through. And since murder could easily become a very profitable business, the possibilities for expansion are quite real.

Look more closely at who lobbied that loophole into the law. You may come to the conclusion that her death was pre-meditated murder for profit.

Thanks for the posts.

In the meantime the nation is AT WAR!

The hype on this case is absolutely unbelievable -- on both sides.

As an aside, if DeLay were not in up to his neck in ethics concerns, do you think for one minute he would have exercised the system as he has done?

Not a chance in he**!

The politics on both sides is despicable IMHO!

And, just a friendly reminder, On Memorial Day Weekend, we will kill at least 600 persons -- most by accidents involving voluntarily induced alcoholic irresponsibility --in some cases by the same voices shouting from the rooftops in this case. And, not a voice will be heard!

Let politicians have the floor, to self-serve their sorry fannies; and you had better put on a flak jacket. Incoming Rounds! This case is but one sorry example of blatant, out-of-control political posturing on all sides!

And, yes, I am a conservative Freeper of longstanding membership. Just fed up, big-time!

Neither was Nazi Germany in one fell swoop.

He started small - and then gained steam because of naive people - and probably many good people - who simply couldn't conceive of where the first step of getting rid of the unfortunates would lead. When a society allows such evil to happen - it's inevitable it will go downhill from there.

Every society has the "Nazi" personality in it. (One doesn't have to call themselves a Nazi to be one!) The only thing that keeps them in check is the right laws. If they can knock a hole in those - anarchy will break out and not be easily quelled.

In Russia, 1917, it was the REDS - and Communism was born. In Germany, early 1930's, the Nazi movement began.) Again, study the histories.
