TOMBSTONE, Ariz. — They came by the hundreds Friday, men and women from across the nation, hearts brimming with righteous anger, determined to staunch the flow of illegal immigration.

Some wore pistols slung low on their hips. Others walked the dusty streets in leather cowboy hats, wearing buttons that read: "Undocumented Border Patrol Agent." There were pilots, window washers, private investigators and exterminators.

President Bush outraged many of the volunteers here by calling them vigilantes.

It's outrageous that the President of the U.S. doesn't know the meaning of the word 'vigilante'.

And it's outrageous that he's done nothing to secure or borders in a time of war.

From what I've read, the ACLU wants to escort illegals to safety. American safety, no doubt?

Gotta keep those illegally crossing safe from them "vigilantes."

"I figured the shirts be Green, Red, and White"

That would make sense for the shirts of those scumbags, the Mexican flag is green white and red!

The attorneys of the ACLU, like other attorneys, are officers of the court. If they see a crime being committed, do they have the obligation to report it? A foreign national entering our country illegally is a crime.

There needs to be a third group behind the aclu to watch the MM's back and video tape everything. We could have such a string of monitors and monitors of monitors that no one would think to cross:')

Somebody called Bush "the co-president of Mexico"

That is way too flattering.

Bush touches these people in any way even verbally and it WILL hurt the party..
I suspect, "a hard rain is gonna fall"... on the vigilantes..

They are EXPOSING the administration in ways,
the administration does not want to be exposed..

Don't look good for the party..
If Bush EVER caved, nows the time for caving.. to the vilgilantes.. Two choices, cave to Vigils or cave to FOX, any other stance will be seen as caving to FOX by stealth.. Hillery must be rubbing her hands with glee over this.. Democrats are no doubt behind the scenes pressureing Bush to come down on the Vigils..

Their crazy but they ain't stupid..
Would take some extra big brass balls for Bush to close the Mexican border..
I don't think Bush HAZEM... but that is what it would take..

My hat's off to the folks who responded to the Minute Man Project. I wish them safety and success! I'm hoping there is a rise in snakebites for the ACLU, Media and the "monitors".

But hey, what's more important, protecting our borders or getting a couple of extra % of Hispanic vote.

It's not about votes. First of all, Bush has already won his election. Secondly, the legal Hispanic community is fairly evenly split on the issue of illegal immigration (and there's probably more antis than pros), so pandering to them by keeping the open-borders policy in place would get the GOP nowhere.

It's about a conscious decision to (eventually) eliminate borders in the Americas. .....for economic reasons.

And yes, this will be the death of the U.S.

Frankly, I can understand the ACLU's actions. I wouldn't put it past some of the people who would be involved with the Minutemen to open fire on immigrants. Vigilante action is not what our nation is about. In anycase letting one set of nutcases follow another around somewhere that is farther from me than before is always a plus.

The immigration problem is severe, but as long as there are jobs here they can get that pay in an hour what they normally get in a day or a week back home, they will come. If you want real results, lobby your legislators for real punishment of businessmen who employ illegals. If it was a felony offense with a substantial fine and imprisonment attatched, perhaps you'd see a reduction in the problem. Less job opportunities, less immigration. Patrolling the border like this hits the people in the whole system of illegal immigration who already have it worst. Punish the guy who encourages illegal immigration because he wants cheaper labor come harvest time, not the guy who is trying to get his family out of poverty and starvation. If you think this immigraiton is a severe problem, then do something where you're actions will be more effective, not to mention moral. If you can honestly tell me that a vigilante system like this will not result in violence, then you're delusional. Should the border be sealed up more securely? Yes. Should we rely on the fringe elements of our society to do it? Probably not. Should we try to improve how the government handles our border security? Yes.

What surprises me is LULAC has been totally absent from this debate. When I first heard of this project I expect them to lead the opposition.

My biggest concern is that someone will try to setup the minutemen. The MSM needs footage and they are not above staging something. Keep an eye out for Dan Rather types.

Bush and all Republicans who aren't tough on illegal immigration are already starting too hurt the party. Republicans are going to start splitting if the leadership doesn't take a tougher stance on illegal immigration. I will never again vote for anyone who doesn't take this problem serious and/or doesn't come up with an effective immigration policy that doesn't involve amnesty.

" I wouldn't put it past some of the people who would be involved with the Minutemen to open fire on immigrants."

So you're involved in screening the participants? Unless you are I would suggest you go back to professing open borders.
