Mort Kondrake on Fox News last night was saying that the Catholics should look for a more "liberal" Pope this time because JP11 was too conservative because of the abortion, gay marriage, abstinence issues...

I thought Fred Barnes was gonna jump him...and even Charles Krauthammer and Chris Wallace were surprised that Kondrake would make that suggestion...
They all said that the Pope's conservativeness is what MADE him the respected Pope that he was!

I was watching that. In a way, it was kind of hilarious. There he was, a non-Catholic, suggesting that the Catholic church just go the way of the protestant denominations that are moving with the "culture". I'm listening to two ladies discuss what will be "looked for" in the next Pope, and it is pretty hilarious as well.

Mort can be fairly reasonable on econimics and foriegn policy. Once we enter the topic of social conservatism and Faith in general, time to turn the channel.

I'm not surprised by the NYT's, I am pleased they got caught.

Conservative yes.
My criticism of him is that he did not support us in Iraq.Big mistake, although I take into account his age. How come its ok to war against the commies and the Nazis but not Sadaam. He missed it big time on this.

Wish I had seen that.

He said it best to those who felt he was holding back social enlightenment "The church cannot be an association of freethinkers".

I saw it too. The night before Kondracke had raged against evangelicals because they "want to impose their views" on everybody else. The death of the Pope gave him a chance to let loose against the Catholic Church. I believe that Kondracke is an Episcopalian which tells me all I need to know about his theology. Krauthammer, who is Jewish, gave a very strong and wise tribute to John Paul II.

The American press thinks that the USA is so important to the universal church. THE USA is a drop in the bucket of the 1 BILLON Catholics in the world. My guess is the American Cardinals are being told to sit down and keep ther mouths shut at the concalve.. It was the US Bishops that gave us the HOMOSEXUAL scandal in the church, have bankrupted multiple dioceses to pay for the lawsuits, new age BS, lesbians wanting to be priests, and a GAY culture in the Catholic Church
