Republican attempts to raise his profile in Iowa, N.H. Updated: 6:35 p.m. ET April 1, 2005 Add another name to the list of potential 2008 presidential candidates: Sen. Sam Brownback. The Kansas Republican, little known outside his home state, is using a network of social conservatives and Christian activists to raise his profile in Iowa and New Hampshire, two states critical to White House hopefuls. In an interview Thursday, Brownback said he has not made a formal decision on whether to run and would not give a timetable on when he would decide. Im exploring the options, Brownback said. Theres a lot of interest in the topics that Ive been pushing for some time. Brownback, 48, is also talking strategy with Chuck Hurley, a former Iowa state legislator who is president of the Iowa Family Policy Center, a conservative advocacy group. Brownback and Hurley were college and law school classmates. I am 100 percent behind him personally, in terms of a presidential bid, Hurley said. My friendship and my confidence in Sam as a leader is whats driving me personally. Professionally, I think hed do a great job on our issues. Besides introducing Brownback to key Republicans in Iowa, Hurley took the senator on a road trip in December to meet with Christian mens groups in the state. Talking about his religion He was talking about what it means to be a Christian in public life, Hurley said. I think before he is going to commit to a campaign, he needs to get a feel for Iowans. Brownback is also making inroads in New Hampshire, where he will be the keynote speaker on April 16 at an award ceremony honoring state legislators for their support of conservative causes. . . .

He's my senator, but this man will never be POTUS.
If you're looking for someone to do something about illegal immigration, this is not the man for you.
"Just curious, what's the problem with Brownback?"
I'm addressing to both of you because I'm also curious about Mr. Brownback. I know nothing about him. What are his good and bad points?
Thanks, MS
That would be a change, a REAL Catholic Senator running for president.
Darnit. What does it take to get a President who is serious about securing our borders and reducing the size of government?
As I've said many times, we need someone in '08 that's far more conservative than Reagan. Fat chance, though.
Today's Republican party looks like a bunch of socialist-lites compared to our founding fathers. We need to return to our roots.....or we're in big trouble.
I think we can get there in the long term by encouraging the collapse of the Democrat party, allowing the GOP to continue its drift leftwards, and generating a new umbrella party on the right.
Well, he introduced the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act earlier this year. It would require that women considering an abortion receive info on the pain the unborn child feels when he or she is killed. In January, he introduced a bill that would raise the maximum possible fine for indecent acts performed on radio or TV to $325K; it's currently only $32K. Finally, Brownback's always been the principal Senate sponsor of the Human Cloning Prohibition Act, which would criminalize all types of human cloning. In short, Brownback seems to be interested in pushing the issues that I'm interested in. Thus, I think his candidacy should be considered.
How is he on the 2nd amendment?
Mike Pence!
The elimination of 95% of the voters. Most people do not vote on the issue of immigration. They have other concerns.
