They'll invent some other meaning to some other "prophecy" and continue to scream "The Sky is falling" in hopes that people continue to come to church and fill the coffers.

It is all one big fraud? Looks like you figured us out, seriesly. Now I know why I go to church and fill the coffers.

I hope that present media coverage of JP II and his reunification with our heavenly Father will wake up few more sleepy Christians, make them proud and look forward to future.

So how are they going to interpret this propechy when like 5 more popes come and go??

Yeah, who knows. I guess just wait and see. If we get more popes then it was obviously wrong. All prophecy is speculation though don't you think?I find it intriguing yet I certainly don't base my life on it. When Jesus returns I just want to be ready. I had a Sunday School teacher tell me when I was a young girl that it doesn't matter if Jesus returns in our lifetime or not really, because eventually, "rapture" happens to each of us when we die. I've never forgotten that. It would just be nice to not have to die a physical death and get to go with all my loved ones.

I seem to recall that when younger, I heard something about a document that is read when a new pope is elected...

The new pope usually reads the document and then seals it with his ring and it's not read by anyone else. Only the Pope reads this document. I recall (vaguely - as I was a kid when I heard this) that some popes actually went white when reading this document.

Has anyone else heard of this document or read about it?

I always thought it was the last vision of Fatima.

I thought I remember reading a comment by Cardinal Ratzinger in which he stated very clearly that the Third Secret of Fatima does not involve the "end times" at all.

IOW, Cardinal Martini.

There is nothing more glorious you can do to an olive than soak it in gin :)

interesting post. Nostradamus (if you believe that stuff) also predicted the destruction of the Catholic Church by Islamic invaders and the occupation of Europe by Islamic invaders. Coupled with the St. Malachy prophecies and the Prophecy of Fatima and the militancy of Islam, it's pretty unsettling. Arabs will be a majority in Europe (aka Eurabia) within 10-20 years. The invading army is already inside the gates. A civil war in Europe can happen within our lifetime.

One may suspect Ratzinger's statement is meant to quell further discussion. Others have interpreted otherwise.

Wise teacher kathy. People get too excited about the "end" times. The end time comes for each of us, and not always when we expect it. One should be ready to meet the Lord at every minute of life. Our Lord told us not to worry about tomorrow because today contains enough problems to occupy our minds.

The Islamics got a pretty good start in destroying the Catholic Church in Chechoslovakia.

Now that is a scary thought.

"In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End."

It could be interpreted to mean the end of the Holy Roman Church, not the end of the human race.

Not much difference between this and astrology.

Quiet, bigot. No one wants to hear your crap today.

I've also heard a rumor, and I repeat this is just a rumor, that where they hang portraits of the Popes, there's only room for two more portraits on the wall.

Didn't some Muslim scholar predict that America would cease to exist in 2007? Interesting stuff.
