Stopping Kay Bailey Hutchison
The New Republic ^ | 04/02/05 | Robert Novak

STOPPING KAY.

Entrepreneur Clayton Williams, who spent millions of his personal fortune in an unsuccessful 1990 bid for governor of Texas, has vowed to stop Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison if she runs, as expected, against Gov. Rick Perry next year.

Williams has told friends he supported Hutchison only for the Senate, not to be governor. If she opposes Perry, Williams added, he will contribute whatever money is needed by Perry in the Republican primary.

Perry has slipped in the polls, but he might have the advantage among the normal Republican voting base in the party primary. With Texas now essentially a one-party Republican state, Hutchison might need to solicit Democrats to vote in the GOP primary.

Well, fellow Texans, what do you think about this? I know Clayton's political history(Comments about rape, etc.; but, generally, I think Clayton's heart is in the right place). And, I agree with him here. I simply do not think KBH displays the strong leadership the Texas Republican Party needs. I am out-of-state now, though. Have at it.

Perry has to go, they all have to go soon (hopefully before they try to ram the State Income Tax down our throats.

The message needs to be sent to Austin that fiscal responsibility is "not" a Tax increase.

I will support "anybody but"

What do you think of Rick Perry? Which of the two would be better?

I liked old Clayton, but he steps in it sometimes when it comes to women. He should never have lost that election.

What has to go is the obscene property taxes Texas home owners pay.

I'm a Texas transplant, too-but, in the wrong direction.

Perry is for an income tax? I haven't heard that before, and none of my relatives have mentioned it. If he is, he doesn't deserve to be re-elected; but, I'd be willing to bet that KBH would approve an income tax before RP would. Maybe I've lost touch.

Please see my post #6; I like RP, but, if he's pushing/talking income tax, he needs to be taken down. But, KBH is weak IMHO-think RINO Kay Granger, ex-Ft. Worth mayor who changed to the GOP so she could be elected to the House.

They all need to go. They are about to saddle us with an income tax behind our backs, and they don't plan to pass the appraisal cap.

Dan Patrick (radio station owner in Houston) bought their line, hook and sinker, but they are playing him for the fool. While he is out pitching this income tax, they are scheming to deny him his 30 pieces of silver (appraisal caps).

In the end, we will have an income tax AND high property taxes. Inside five years, I won't be living in Taxes anymore.

If Williams couldn't win in 1990, what makes him think he can win now?

Hutchinson is weird because only a strange woman would adopt kids at the age she has. Perry, simply put, borders on being a moron.

Provide the evidence if you are going to make an accusation like that. I have never heard Rick Perry come our for a state income tax. In my opinion the job is his as long as he wants it. The leadership he demonstrated during the redistrictiong battle will have a majority of Texas Republicans in his corner for a long time. FREE at last
from the likes of Martin Frost, Max Sandlin and the rest of
those Clinton lovin socialist democrats.

Williams isn't planning to run, just support Perry against Hutchison.

I'd love to see Hutchinson attempt to beat Perry and lose.

Then, I'd love to see her lose her senate seat to a pro-life republican.

My purpose in posting this Novak excerpt was to poll Texas Freeper opinion on the upcoming goober race. Surprisingly, so far, it seems to be anti-Perry/anti-higher taxes, and rightly so. I wasn't aware, being out-of-state, that Texas is so near (apparently) an income tax, so my advice is simple: do as Tennessee did, vote the rascals out. There should be enough residual Tennessee blood from independence days to do that.

I just can't see KBH being the answer.

I like Clayton, too. He speaks from the heart-unfortunately, that doesn't work in politics.

I don't like Perry. He is still a Dem in the heart and in the head.

I don't know many people who like him.
