Following the death of Terri Schiavo, the woman who was in a vegetative state for 15 years and without food or water for 13 days, several people interviewed by this daily stated that an injustice was committed against this woman.
Dominican Sisters of Fatima Magdalena Rivera and María Irene Santiago said that this case was very sad and unjust.
"God is the only author of life and death, and we have to wait for God's moment so that a person may leave this world, [which] we must not violate," said Sister Magdalena.
She pointed out that there have been people who have gotten out of a coma "miraculously, and no one knows this mystery[.] In addition to the little medical knowledge I have, I understand that a person can hear up to the moment of death, and, although she cannot speak, she is [still] a person[.] I understand the person has dignity, which has to be respected."
On the Schiavo case, her opinion is that it was unjust, [that] "they should have waited for God's moment."
For her part, Sister María Irene had the same opinion as her colleague's and said that all this happens because of a lack of faith.
Finally, security guard Luis Contance lamented that [Schiavo's] parents could not be with her by her deathbed.
"This person was breathing on her own[.] As far as I'm concerned, what they did was kill her," Contance maintained.
Schiavo was 41 years old[.] Her parents insisted that she could have recovered if the feeding tube that was keeping her alive remained connected. She died in [a] hospice in Pinellas Park, Florida where she was living for several years.
The woman suffered brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped beating due to a chemical imbalance which is believed was caused by an eating disorder.
Yes, but as soon as they start talking about God, they've lost half their audience. We need to play smarter next time.
That would be the, uh, godless half. Wish we really could lose them!
Eliminating God from the equation is what turns human life into an inconvenience, thus "justifying" the abominable practices of abortion and euthanasia. The nuns who were interviewed were speaking out of wisdom as they acknowledge that human life is precious and dignified because an all-powerful Creator is behind it.
Yeah, right.
Security guard Louis Contance gets it.
C'mon its April 1st. I am happy to see the symphathy emanating from the good people in Boricua-ville. Maybe they can join me in burning Judge Greer in effigy this weekend.
