San Diego -- NOW THAT Terri Schiavo has died, many of the questions the country has been wrestling with are moot.
It no longer matters which doctor had the right diagnosis, or whether Schiavo's husband or parents had her best interests at heart, or whether the federal government should have been involved, or whether this was a case that was best handled by doctors and family members as opposed to politicians and judges.

Agreed. The circus hurt the GOP and made them look like out of touch extremists.
Now those gains are threatened by the rigid agenda of social conservatives within the GOP. Democrats once convinced themselves that they were more open-minded than anyone else; for social conservatives, it's all about being closer to God than anyone else. They spend a lot of time trying to convince the country that they have cornered the market on morality and they imply, or sometimes say outright, that anyone who disagrees with them comes up short in that department.I expect this goes over well in Coastal California--where, as we know, GOP voters abound.
Only the parents came out as winners.
Oh please, most people are going to back to watching American Idol and the Jacko trial, and one year from now they'll be saying "Terri Who?"
Well, there are social conservatives and prolifers who are threatening to bolt the party because Bush and Jeb didn't use force to rescue Terri. And there are independents and moderates who think George and Jeb interferred. They are getting hit from both sides.
Well said.
"The article is correct the GOP stepped into a huge pile and it will be a while before it can be scraped off."
Yep that Republican judge did disgrace the whole party.
I wonder if the judge or any of those involved or those who wanted Terri to starve to death would be willing to stake their child's life on the "fact" that she wanted to be starved to death.
Are they really that 100% sure? If you are not, err on the side of life.
There was no "upholding the constitution" except by the judiciary which is being attacked vehemently for it.
Only in the rose-colored, patchouli-scented world of the left is human life considered worthless.
They look worse of all.
Wrong! Rush Limbaugh has never been more articulate or more convincing.
Now Jeb Bush, he's toast. If any Republican was hurt it's Jeb Bush. He came across as wimpy. If ever there was a situation where a politician could have taken his shoe off and banged it against something this was it.
I don't think it hurt the GOP at all. Sure, the GOP was generally feckless and inept (nothing new there), but at least Republicans were mostly on the side of life.
I don't know how many of you saw the remarks by Terri's sister and brother following her death. I thought they were very inspirational and would recommend finding a transcript if you didn't see it. (I was a bit disappointed in Jeb's statement following her death; I think bro. POTUS' statement was much stronger and better.)
And we heard the same thing when the GOP tried to stop Elian from going back to his Daddy, Fidel Castro. Gee let's see, two Presidential election wins and control of both the House and Senate. Yep, the GOP was really hurt on that one.
Never you fear they will be reminded when elections roll around again. I hope I am wrong but doubt it.
What hurt the GOP was that they took the position that she was being murdered, and then backed away. Personally, I think we've made progress, in that we've gone from evil people (Democrats) to spineless people (Republicans). Still got a ways to go, though.
In the long-run it will help the GOP big time. A huge scandal will begin to emerge concerning her husband and Judge greer and the administration of the hospice to which Terri was confined.
In addition, more and more questions will be asked about this whole incident and the role of Michael Schiavo. Once all the answers come out, the GOP will have exposed some very dirty linen, IMO.
There are just to many aspects of this case that don't make sense from the outset.
There is no "issue" to address here.
