The New York Jets' proposed $1.9 billion Manhattan stadium, a centerpiece of the city's 2012 Olympics bid, moved closer to reality today when a state agency accepted the team's bid for development rights to a 13-acre parcel near the Hudson River.
For some reason i cant post the link here, but its up on Bloombergs site.
Hey! Why don't they finish our world trade center first, i think that would be more important to us.
Cool! Sounds like a great stop for the Patriots on the way to another Super Bowl! Sure beats the Meadowlands.
They are building the WTS as we speak.. We cant have 2 projects at once?
Nope. I suppose you are to rend your garments and flagellate yourself for at least another six or seven years.
Good, those grating ads on Cablevision every five minutes lose. . . .
NYCity Financial Planning--when in debt, take on new projects. Works every time.
This project is going to be a disaster for New York City, the taxpayers, and everyone else other than Jets' owner Woody Johnson and some major real estate players in the city.
When you look at the return-on-investment of hosting an olympic game, it looks like 2012 will be the year that put NYC in its grave. Look at Greece: the games hadn't even begun yet and they were already considering their total debt from it and saying "WTF were we thinking?!"
(look up the etymology of the term "white elephant")
I am a Jets season ticket holder and the fact is once the stadium is built I'll be able to get megabucks for many of my tickets and make back the money I paid for the PSL's in a few years...and if I am picked for Super Bowl tickets in 2010- BINGO!

->YUP, you can have two projects as long as you guys dump Hilldelga Clintoon and make it look good ;)
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
My prediction is that at least 75% of the people sitting with you at the Meadowlands at a Jets home game last fall won't be sitting with you in Manhattan.
This will be the best for New York, Jets, jobs. Super Bowl, Olympics, and the hatred of those who are not even New Yorkers but think they own the city.
We more than willingly pay taxes like this.
I guess the crumbling subway will have to wait...
1.9 billion dollars to build it in hopes they will come. I can't imagine how much the security detail will cost. Seems to me, having the Olympics in NY is just asking for trouble. It's not like terrorists have never used the Olympics as a stage. I wouldn't mind it being built where the League of Useless Nations is though. Of course they would have tear it down.
based on???
I think you are waaayyyy off....as a season ticket holder for 20+ years I sat with many of these people in Shea.
I think a better plot of land for this stadium would be between 42nd and 48th Streets just east of First Avenue.
How many of those people sitting with you in the Meadowlands are -- 1) capable, and 2) willing -- to pay $5,000 up front for a "seat license" that allows them to buy season tickets for as long as the Jets play there?
