Outside Roads and Inner City Streets Shut Down Around Vatican
FOX/CNN/MSNBC

Posted on 03/31/2005 4:03:54 PM PST by My Favorite Headache

Apparently the streets have been roped off and all major roads leading into Rome are/have been sealed shut. Sidewalks and city streets roped off as well...news looks very very grim for the Pope....

As a Catholic I pray every day, but I am also praying that our church recovers from the mess it has been in for the last 15 years. A major overhaul needs to be done on the PR front. This is really the only Pope I ever remember through my life. I am going to be 31 next week and with the passing of President Reagan last year...it seals up the end of a major era for sure.

He served humanity well and fought tirelessly for the values he believed in. If it is his time to be called, then I guess all we can do is be thankful for his life on Earth.

Some have said it will be a remarkable coincidence if the Holy Father were to pass away the same day as Terri Schiavo. But if I am not mistaken it is after midnight in Rome so it is already April 1 there.

At his age (or at ANY age really), that's no good at all...what a day this has been.

Ths "smoke watch" is after the burial, and the Conclave is called. That usually will be approx.2 wks. after Holy Father passes.

Are you sure, I thought the smoke meant the Pope has died...

Yes he is correct. The smoke is when the decision is made on who the new Pope is.

I believe it's black smoke when a pope dies and white smoke when a new one is chosen.

I think the smoke is only for the "election" of the new Pope. But, I might be mistaken.

The black smoke means that the election did not result in a Pope, it does not signal the death of a Pope.
