LEVITTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Terri Schiavo's ashes will be buried in an undisclosed location near Philadelphia so that her immediate family doesn't show up and turn the burial into a media spectacle, a member of the Schiavo family said Thursday.
``If Mike knew they would come in peace, he would have no problem with it,'' Scott Schiavo, Michael Schiavo's brother, said during an interview at his home.
After an autopsy, Michael Schiavo plans to have his wife's body cremated and her ashes brought to Pennsylvania, where she grew up. Scott Schiavo said the ashes would be buried in a plot left by an aunt and uncle, but the family does not plan on providing the specficic location for the burial - underscoring the bitterness of the dispute.
Her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had fought for years to prevent her feeding tube from being removed, and they opposed cremation and wanted her buried in Florida.
Neither Terri Schiavo's parents nor her siblings addressed the issue of her burial in their remarks to reporters in Florida on Thursday. A spiritual adviser to her parents, Paul O'Donnell, said they plan to hold a Roman Catholic Mass without her body sometime next week.
Scott Schiavo said he received a stream of calls Thursday from people denouncing him. On his answering machine was a message from a man from Texas who called the Schiavo family murderers.
Police made visits Thursday to both Scott Schiavo's home and the home of his brother, William, in Philadelphia, as a result of threats to the families.
Scott Schiavo expressed relief that his sister-in-law's ordeal was over, and anger at those who have attacked the Schiavo family.
``This isn't over by a long shot, We're going to get our name right,'' he said. ``The world is going to know who Mike was, they're going to know Mike wasn't a beast.''
At Terri Schiavo's alma mater, Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, workers changed a sign that read ``Terri Schiavo, Class of 1981, We pray that you may live'' to ``We pray that you rest in peace.''
No, they're not. Since the Catholic Church views Michael's actions as having murdered Terri, and it does not allow a person to marry if they killed their spouse, Michael is permanently inelligible for Catholic marriage.
I believe she is divorced.
Well, ,b>that's an understatement.
I have never been prouder.
The right to life trumps any state law...it is the basis of our constitution.
The right to die as one decides is important to.
Florida state law did NOT allow for Terri to have protection from abusive treatmet by her guardian. The LAW IS FLAWED.
WE FIX FLAWED LAWS.
SO that NO JUDGE can IGNORE the SPIRIT of the law, while sticking ONLY TO INTENT.
Our constitution PROTECTS the disabled, the FLORIDA GUARDIAN LAW DOES NOT. Or Terri would have had the latest medical tests before the KILLING commenced.
As our PResident said, we are not much if we do not protect the 'least of us'.t
The rights of the disabled MUST BE THOROUGHLY VETTED, so that the hearsay of KILLING SOMEONE WHO WOULD NOT WANT IT NEVER HAPPENS.
The was only one finding of fact in this case...that terri wanted to die according to three people...michael schiavo, his brother, and his brother's wife.
It was never heard with another court...one judge made the life and death decision. One.
When a man tells the world his wife wanted to die. so LATE in the game, and all the while is living and makig babies with another....I want our LAWS to protect the disabled....with a FEDERAL REVIEW...
Because NOT ALL SPOUSES ARE EQUAL...some are MONSTERS....and this deserves a SECOND LOOK...with ALL the facts on the table. INcluding the BONE SCAN which judge greer refused to hold a hearing about.
I stand happily corrected!!
Tomorrow is April 1st.
We have seen what Mad Mike has done to Terri in front of the whole d*mn world, for the purpose of torturing her already suffering family. How much of an imigination do we need to assume that the young woman's life when alone with Mike, was in all likelyhood less than blissful.
I truly hope you are wrong -- that no good will come of this. Did you hear Sean Hannity's radio show today? Terri Schiavo is now the face of the right-to-die movement and her interaction with her Mom is their poster. I don't think this episode will die for a long time.
The more I have learned about Michael Schiavo the more detestable I find him -- spending the therapy money on lawyers to kill Terri, removing family members from the room during her death. This man is a sad puppy. I see the Schindlers' side much better
Does anyone remember the names of MS parents? That would help with a genealogical search.
I was hoping for a response like that :)
So, you mean nobody will really be hitting the bricks? That's too bad, I bet it would have been a really good self-puffed Opus.
Excellent post.
And besides, he won didn't he? By killing Terri.
What a ruthless jerk. Perhaps the FBI can investigate Michael along with the IRS? I normally do not like using Federal government as a tool, but I really do think it is needs to be done.
Bumping another great post, Republic.
A good friend of Terri who was with her the day before her collapse said Michael said in front of her and others he had no idea what Terri would want. She pretty much said he was not being truthful.
It's not the article that "proposes a red herring", it's his brother Scott who is making it clear that not only will they not be allowed at the service, but also not allowed to know where her ashes are buried.
But keep spinning a way to make him look good. It's enlightening.
I'm not interested in making him look good. I'm just also not interested in making up our own facts to make him look worse.
I'm with you.
Then acknowledge when your sanctimonious "corrections" are shown to be wrong.
For example, she did get married in the Catholic Church.
