Pat Buchanan wrote a fantastic column on this topic last week, and he said that the U.S. today is basically in the same position as Germany under the Weimer Republic in the late 1920s -- particularly with regard to the notion that there is even such a thing as a "life not worth living."

I think author Gore Vidal said sometime in the 1990's, "the smell of the Weimar Republic is in the air." If you want something to really curl your hair, read the short story by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. in his collection of short stories in the book, "Welcome To The Monkey House." There was one story there written around 1968 or so about were people can go to "suicide centers" to die at any time they want to. Absolutly chilling.

I think the way in which the Congressional Black Caucus voted with the GOP on the legislation passed in the House and Senate last week was very telling. I suspect they are starting to feel very uncomfortable about where this country stands, and the notion of race-based or ethnic-based genocide in this country isn't so far-fetched anymore.
