No kidding. One thing I've never understood about this forum is the almost inevitable reaction to obituaries. It's like clockwork. Someone pops up with a comment like "I've never heard of him," or "Who?", or "I thought he died years ago." Almost like they're proud of their ignorance. Very strange.
Mr. Hedberg, no doubt, wasn't the most important person on this planet. I'm sure lots of people hadn't heard of him. But why would they brag about it?
Well said, SNC.
I think I'm guilty of having done that once or twice, some years back, but I stopped when I realized how annoying it was.
I'm not proud of my ignorance, but I haven't heard of him before this death notice. I feel cheated. I went to the Comedy Channel website and listened to some clips. The guy was brilliant. His type of humor was right up my alley.
So I'll say a sad goodbye. Mitch, I hardly knew ya.
Who are you again?
Nor have I ever heard a Britney Spears or a 50 Cent song. No, I do not care about the marriage of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez breaking up. And I think the Royal Family of England are a bunch of dysfunctional imbred idiots.
Now this here "Mitch Hedburg" comedian might have been a decent guy and maybe he was the kind of person who would stop on the side of the road to fix somebody's flat tire. Perhaps he once bought a book from a struggling author or maybe he engaged in a conversation with a lonely person on an airplane during a long trans-Atlantic flight. It's too bad that he's dead. He should have lived longer. But I still do not know who he is.
But I do know that he told a pretty good joke about an escalator breaking down thanks to other replies on this thread. I did not know of this joke when he was alive but now that he's dead, I will probably start using it for myself, since obviously he has no further use for it.
