Terri Schiavo, the brain-damaged Florida woman at the heart of a bitter legal dispute, has died, a spokesman for her parents has said. Mrs Schiavo's feeding tube was disconnected on 18 March, following a seven-year battle through the courts.
Her husband Michael Schiavo had said his wife would not have wanted to live in her current condition.
The 41-year-old's parents fought to the highest level of the US courts system to keep their daughter alive.

Timeline: Terri Schiavo case
Mrs Schiavo died at the Pinellas Park hospice where she lay for years while her husband and her parents fought over whether to keep her alive or not.
Her parents and their two other children were with her up to 15 minutes before she died.
A few minutes before she died, they were told to leave the room by Michael Schiavo, their spokesman said.
They were allowed back into the room after she died.
Father Frank Pavone, national director of the organisation Priests for Life, accused Mr Schiavo of "heartless cruelty".
"This is not only a death, this is a killing," he said. "We grieve that our nation has allowed such an atrocity as this."
Mrs Schiavo collapsed after her heart stopped beating temporarily in 1990.
Court-appointed doctors had said she was in a permanent vegetative state and would not recover, but her parents had said she could.
The case galvanised activists from both sides of the euthanasia debate.
I can barely find the words to express how horrible this is...what her mother must be feeling...God forbid someone try and take my child from me....how can this happen in this country. I have lost so much faith in the American people..i truly thought we were better than that. To take a living, breathing human being and starve her to death because her "quality of life" wasn't up to snuff, it's just beyond words. As a mother, I'm just so sad...
No, I wasn't there. But, then again, I wasn't posting about what happened in the room either...
Maybe because, at the moment of his wife's passing, he didn't want to be in a room full of people who will go on national television and call him a murderer.
I don't care what you've seen before, and I don't care how many medical people you have in your family. That doesn't allow you to speculate what happened in that room and state it as fact.
I heard a clip of Terri Schiavo speaking this morning on the Laura Ingraham show - saying yes and no about feeling pain - does anyone have that audio clip?
Unless, of course, you're looking to enrage a lynch mob.
Okay, now that bastard Michael "Bluebeard" Schiavo can marry his live-in. Good luck to the new wife, because she will surely need it.
The "Culture of Death" has scored one more point.
Is this satire? If so, its more than a little callous. If not, please learn some facts about the case before spreading this kind of nonsense.
Terri, may the angels carry you to glory of Heaven, the dwelling of the God of Mercy, the God of Life.
"brain damaged. they can't write her name without first always saying brain damaged."
I could accept the 'brain damaged' part, because I think her brain probably was damaged. It was the "persistent vegetative state" that I hated to hear.
My heart is aching. I don't know what the future holds, but I hope there is a Christian memorial established for her and the name Schiavo is left off of it.
A sad day - I certainly feel my own portoin of the national shame.
A very long time ago a particularly wily snake convinced a woman related to us all that she and her husband should eat of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge and that she and her husband would then be as gods(!). Very old trick. Obviously, it still works on Murderous Michael and his judicial sycophants and his supporters.
No - this is not satire. I've been following Terri's case for a long time. I think the clip was done before she had dental work performed a few years ago. I think it was her Father who was asking, if Terri had pain in her leg, her ear, her mouth, etc. There was a very discernable difference in her 'yes' and 'no' answers.
May God have mercy on those who participated in this murder of an innocent disabled woman.
