Wait a minute....in post #52 you said you went through the trouble of re-formatting the drive.
That's not that much trouble. I burned my important files (my My Documents folder and my saved games) to a CD, formatted C, reinstalled Windows, and let Windows Update do the rest.
Reinstalling my apps takes maybe 10 minutes.
