Rhode Island is neither a road nor an island; it is a fungus!

Whoooo hoooooooooooooo, no crack head Patches in the Senate, thank you God! Not sure if you've heard but Joan Kennedy, Patches mom, was found wandering the streets, she was injured, shoulder injuries, etc. she was found by a passerby who helped her get medical attention. Last month Joan was put into the custody of her children, um Patches, why was your mommy roaming the streets?

If you want a really scary perspective..print out a list of the House Dems by seniority, then check off those who are members of the Black Caucus..and the Dems, unlike the GOP, have refused to abandon seniority as the sole criteria for committee chairs..

When the GOP took over the House in January of 1995, none of the 204 Democrats there had ever served in a Republican House, not even John Dingell, who was first elected to Congress in a special election in 1955. Today, only 40% of House Democrats ever served in a Democrat House, and only 25% of them (51 Democrats) have served in a Democrat House for more than 4 years. Back in 1995, none of the Republican Representatives had served in a Republican House; now, it is now the rare Republican who can remember serving in the minority in the House for more than 4 years: Only 41 current Republican Representatives (18%) spent more than two terms in the minority in the House.

Things sure have changed in just 10 years.

Things sure have changed.

"And the leadership vote . . . which is the most important vote a Senator makes."

With 54 other Republicans, Chafee's leadership vote isn't worth squat. And in fact, his presence costs the GOP 2 net Republicans in the 3 committees on which he sits (see my post above).

Good. One wetbrain Kennedy in the Senate is enough.

The problem with the Kennedy Family Curse is that the wrong ones keep dying.

"or even to stay a Republican in the future—if the Senate was 50-50, he would have almost certainly pulled a Jeffords, as he has threatened to do in the past."

Chaffee will NEVER switch as long as we have a Senate majority of at least 52 seats, or else he'll be assigned to latrine duties with Jimmy Jeffords. :)

Oh, I agree, Chafee won't switch unless his switch would throw the Senate to the Democrats. But that's exactly why Chafee is useless to the GOP.

The *only* good thing about Chafee staying a Republican is that the R next to his name is a vote for Frist, not Harry Reid, as majority leader, but this only matters if Chafee's vote is number 51. And since Chafee will switch to the Democrats if he were to cast the deciding vote, we would not have Chafee's vote if it ever counted for something. And as I posted earlier on this thread, we are actually better off when it comes to committee advantage with Chafee as a Democrat than with him as a Republican.

I don't remember the year, but National Lampoon once ran the headline "Kennedy Cites Drunkenness, Wrongheadedness, Inability to Win; Withdraws from Race."

All the big names have taken their names off, which means Chafee will be safe for another six years.

Translation: Patches can't get a lead in head to head polls against Lincoln Chaffee regardless of how they word the questions.

That would be a future prediction.

He would probably start out with a lead or dead even, then within maybe 3 or 4 days, plummet.

If you hate his dad, realize Patches makes him look like a saint.

This kid has been acting like a punk for over a decade, his fellow dems in the house don't like him (Gephardt basically kicked him off of one committe to help dems, after getting him on it).

The fact that his mother is battling the bottle again, might actually have gained him sympathy, until people knew about him.

Here's something thats a bottom line fact, think about what is known about patches off the bat (gun grabber, Teddy's son, drunk) and now realize this would be his high point in popularity because he has no where else to go but down, he has such a history of being a jerk you could write columns on it (see the video of him throwing an african american woman who was airline security to the ground).

They do have a video of him throwing an african american woman to the ground in an airport (she was airline security) and another where (at a fundraiser) he was drunk and yelling that "he doesn't work and has never worked a day in his life" (he was a congressman at the time also).

Bobby Kennedy, Jr, Patrick and other assorted Kennedy politico would bee will be haunted by their drug use and family problems. They will never get back in power. The rejection of Kathleen Kennedy Townsend as Govornor proves that, and she is one member of that family who looks and lives like a nun.

No. I think he's already had some confidential polls taken to test the waters. The Kennedys don't like to lose elections. They'd rather he not run rather than get beat.
