KABUL (AFP) - US First Lady Laura Bush arrived in Afghanistan on a lightning visit to promote education and the role of women in society and to meet with US troops, an AFP correspondent said.

Bush, who is due to stay in Kabul for about five hours, touched down at Bagram Air Base, the US headquarters in Afghanistan, after leaving Washington late Tuesday.

She then flew by US military helicopter to Kabul University where she was due to meet a gathering of Afghan women and girls.

Yah, I love Laura Bush, but I would rather have seen her at Pinellas Park, Florida.

(flameswitch on)

To do WHAT?!?!

Sing "we shall overcome" with JESSSSAAAHH Jackson?!?!

Beat a drum?
Blow a whistle?
If you haven't seen some pics or video from there lately, it looks like a freak show now!

And you want our First Lady there?

(flameswitch off)

Fantastic!

Only our First Lady Laura could be this graceful.

I think I will plant a flower garden today in her honor.

It is so wonderful that we have such a terrific first lady.

Great post. We are so lucky to have such a fine First Lady and by the way, her husband is doing a pretty good job as well.

:o)

Oh. That would be so nice.

I mentor at a school on Thursdays in her honor; I teach them to read.

And funnily enough, there is a large picture of the First Lady in the library at that school and the kids are always telling me how much I look like her. I am honored.

Why don't you go sit in the park and wait for her? Oh, take your lunch.

It is a beautiful thread, but the posts make the thread so much better when you can see the absolute contrast between beauty (Laura) and the beast (Hitlerly). Thank you for posting. I hope she is able to make a swing to Jalabad where my son is currently stationed.

Great pictures, thanks. Glad she didn't cover her head.

It will probably take several generations but hopefully Afghanistan can leave the 7th century finally.

Mrs. Bush is an awesome, strong, intelligent woman.

Not to mention, mighty easy on the eye.

That is true, we have to ignore the War on Terror, Social Security reform, and God knows what else until the Terri Shivao situtation is taken care of!!!! /s
