Satanic cult known as criminal defense attorneys.

That pesky right to an attorney. Pesky Constitution.

I agree. I could think of worse people than Johnny Cochran who was doing his JOB as a lawyer whether people like it or not. Rush hired Roy Black didn't he?

Yuppers! :-)

"You might not like his client or his client's crimes, but without an able defense, the system becomes rife with abuse -- spend some time in Mexico if you need to understand."

Exactly!

I'll never forget -- I went to Mexico in the late '80s and it was astonishing to me to see a wall of guards with machine guns lined up on the street next to some government facility. I wish I could remember exactly where we were.

In any case--now the U.S. has greater security, but 20 years ago, a scene like this would have been unheard of in the U.S.

Anyway, as you pointed out, without a vigorous defense, individual people get trampled on. That is why defense lawyers are so passionate.

Thank you for your post.

Well, I hope he has a good lawyer representing him. I've got the best.

I am sorry there are so many here.

Well, we're sorry that there are so many of you who think that abominable excuses for human beings suddenly become worthy of respect just because they die.

I'm not one of those people who speaks with hatred of people simply because I disagree with them.

LOL.

Yes, it looks like the family or his colleagues tried to keep it under wraps. It worked to a certain extent..many of us didn't know he was ill. I'm sure they didn't mean to spread around incorrect information.

I agree wholeheartedly. You know, I'm starting to agree with Hannity,.....this place (free-republic) is beginning to really become a cesspool of individuals who can't even respect the passing of an individual. It is sliding towards the same value system, or lack thereof, held by DU and that is a sad commentary. Reading these posts about this man's death is appalling.

I third that. A bunch of tacky tasteless clowns is what a lot of people sound like. Yeah.. A lot like DU.

Cochran's job was to defend his client to the best of his abilities.

No. It was defend his client to the best of his abilities while remaining within the boundaries of ethics. One's 'abilities' might include having unfavorable witnesses knocked off, but that doesn't make it right.

At the extremely high risk of getting hammered- I watched and vidotaped at leat 95% of the entire trial.

I too watched probably 99% of it. I was on a forum back then. If I missed one percent, I could read the transcripts. Personally, I don't believe OJ was guilty; and anyone who watched or read all the transcripts would probably have to at least say, the prosecution didn't prove he was guilty. Dr. Lee and Barry Schenck were the best, along side Johnny Cochran.

He was a gifted man, and a real character. He seemed to really enjoy life and may he now rest in peace.

"The charge that I could convince black jurors to vote to acquit a man they believed to be guilty of two murders because he is black is an insult to all African Americans," he wrote in "A Lawyer's Life."

I guess he wrote that line with a straight face.

Reading these posts about this man's death is appalling.

I agree.

If you really want to be appalled, go to DU's "LBN" and read the posts under "Falwell being in Critical Condition", and he hasn't even passed on.

Or any threads on Terri.

You'll find multiple posts of wishing death comes soon for both, and an overall consensus that both dying would be a good/great/fantasmagorical event.

Many FReepers merely refuse to CELEBRATE Johnnie C.s life and accomplishments upon his passing. A BIG difference, IMHO.

Well I am sorry your so filled with hate for an individual, whom you have never met, who biggest offense seems to being having performed his job well, that you would cheer his death.

Cheering anyone's death, accept perhaps a murderer, child molestor, or terrorist is pretty sick. If you can see that I am wasting bandwidth responding.
