Rev. Jesse Jackson said Tuesday afternoon that he has persuaded two Florida state senators to change their votes on a bill to save Terri Schiavo, leaving the measure just one vote shy of the majority necessary for passage.
"Two of them have committed to meeting with Gov. Jeb Bush. They say that they're flexible if they can find acceptable emergency language," Jackson told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity.
Targeting members of the state senate's black caucus in a bid to save Schiavo, Jackson explained: "While we didn't have the specific language today, if I could just get them to shift their will to do whatever [we can] within the law to help her live, that would be a victory."
"They've made that commitment," the civil rights leader added. "I hope it turns into something concrete, signed by morningtime."
Asked if he thought he'd convert the additional vote that would guarantee passage, Jackson said: "If we get two - with the help of Gov. Jeb Bush, we can get three. . . If I was able to persuade two - if he could persuade one, we can change that vote."
The top Democrat said he had contacted the governor's office and was awaiting a return call, saying, "I hope that he will call me and I hope to share with him my position."
Jackson said he would return to Florida tomorrow if he determines it is "the best, most effective way" to save Schiavo.
"I will fly to Tallahassee or Washington or anyplace," he said.

This will undoubtedly lift him a few rungs in Hell, where he undoubtedly has a reservation.

"Jesse will be getting sweetheart deals from the GOP."
I think this is quite possible. Yet another reason why he might have done it, yet another reason why his intervention is bad news, and yet another reason why FReepers who welcome Jackson's involvement are thinking with their hearts, not their heads.

I recall back in the good ole days, His Jesseness himself came out against abortion. He's quite possibly getting back to his roots.

If so, then I suspect that the devil has begun to complain of frostbite.

Did not God use a donkey once before when he spoke to Balaam? I Am thankful he is there!

Sounds just like the wimp who sees a mugging down the street and can't decide to risk helping the victim. As soon as he sees the cop car in the distance coming, he runs up and says how brave he is.
To: HereInTheHeartland
Well he sees the cop chained into his seat and he's got bolt cutters.

Don't kid yourself. Jackson is doing this for personal gain and for universal health care. I don't care what his motivation is. A broken clock is right twice a day. On this one he deserves a break and a debt of gratitutde. Let us pray he is successful before it is too late.
Frankly I can't believe that in the last two days I have found myself on the same side of the political fence as Ralph Nader, Lanny Davis and Jessie Jackson.

Naaah...
Doubt it. The MSM tried to make this political but it crosses party lines.

I don't subscribe to a lot of the conspiracy theories going on, but I'm sure not middle of the road about Terri's right to not be starved/dehydrated to death on the basis of hearsay. But, I'm not on the fence at all about either Randall Terry or George Felos. Neither of them is credible. Now since they're each saying the exact opposite about Terri's kidney function, I think we're left completely in the dark on that matter.

Lanny Davis agrees with us! I always thought he was better than the Clintons! (Not that that's saying much.)

Jackson: More Senators Back Bid to Save Terri Too little too late. If Jessie was a sincere person he would have jump on the wagon q week ago. He is an opportunist and his late pandering to get some mileage out of this tragedy is simply disgusting.

I wanted to add two things.
First it's not sour grapes on my part. My sister-in-law was terminal - renal cancer that spread to the lungs and she had already lost the function of one kidney when she was finally diagnosed correctly. She had been complaining for over a year. When she awoke one day paralyzed on the one side that did go away her doctor finally took her complaints seriously.
Secondly, when I read she was receiving "comfort care" it was over. What they do is give you narcotics, morphine or if you have a reaction to that some other narcotic cocktail that is just below the legal limit of murder till your kidneys or other organs fail or if you're lucky a heart attack. THAT is where Terri is at.
I don't know if they "sedated" her - put her under. If they did this then she'd be blind now since your eyes deteriorate. My sister-in-law had no eyes left. Her arms and hands were turning black. It was horrific and almost a blessing when she died. She was cheated out of perhaps a month or so.
I feel for the Shinlders since Terri was not terminal and had no business in a Hospice. Being brain damaged doesn't mean you deserve this and especially not when her parents want to care for her and her husband is suspect in many ways.

I don't deny that Jackson may have some positive impact on the issue beyond this case. I do deny that the good will outweigh the harm, which I have explained in previous posts.
To: alnick
I'm glad to hear that. I got the wrong impression.
