That's every other night at Chico State (and most other universities!).
From the last few paragraphs in the article, one could make a case that students were involved. But, techincally you are still correct about the amateur status as the student participants were not paid and are therefore "amateurs".
Perhaps very practiced amateurs, but still amateurs.
