Rev. Jesse Jackson has broken with his fellow Democrats to blast what he said was the "violent" execution of Terri Schiavo, calling it "a great moral and ethical crisis that we should address."
Appearing on MSNBC's "Scarborough Country" Monday night, Jackson said the mistreatment of Schiavo is "worse - more violent and wrong than the convicted's executions."
This woman's being starved and dehydrated to death," he complained. "Eleven days - no food and no water. This is not right."
"She is not brain dead," noted the man regarded by many as the Democratic Party's conscience. "She is brain impaired. All her vital signs are working."
"And to cut off her food and water his heartless," he admonished.
Jackson spoke out as other top Democrats, like Sens. Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, continued to observe a two week-long self-imposed gag order on the Schiavo case.
He said he'd been asked to intervene in the case by Terri's family, and planned to travel to Florida today to keep vigil outside her hospice.
Why did he wait so long?
Oh man I hate to say this but ***GULP!*** I agree with Jessie Jackson (waiting for lightening to strike me!)
May I be the first to say that I agree with Jesse. Perhaps for the first time.
A voice from the 'far left' finally speaks 'right'!!!!
It'll be interesting to see if Jesse decides that this is an important enough issue to break with the slaveowners that run the Democrat party, or if he will decide racial demagoguery is his priority instead.
NOT ENOUGH CAMERAS CAMPED OUT AT FOR HIS LIKING! Won't be able to catch his best profile!
Him and Ralph Nader!
Wow, common ground between Conservatives and Jesse Jackson! Can't wait to hear what El Rushbo has to say about this.
I think it has taken longer for some to rise out of moral indignation than others. And some may not see this side of the issue at all, ever. The facts were not known until the media began to pound them out. Many talking heads have seemingly come around to getting the details out there. It's beyond tragic.
opportunistic or making sense? When it comes to him on this issue im confused..
Terry has the ultimate gag-order imposed by murderous democrats and judicial tyrants.
So where was Jackson when it would have made a difference? This is insincere grandstanding, IMHO.
After watching what has been happening to Terri and her family, I am glad about any help she gets.
Probably had to get the financial arrangements taken care of. Jesse's middle name is not "pro bono."
Wow.....who'd of thunk it. Jackson understands....
Let's see how long he keeps vigil outside her hospice. There are people who have been there for days. Let's see Jessie put his words into action.
Me too. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume his motives are moral.
He's been speaking out on this for a while. He is just now going to the hospice. If you believe the polls this is not a popular stand, so it is unlike many of his others. He's earned some begrudging respect from me.
Yes right now I am willing to do that too. I have to admit he took a bit too long but at least he is making an effort.
A sure sign of the end times when I agree with JJ.
