Do you not somewhere believe that perhaps he made a promise to his wife not to let her "live" by artificial means? Why else would he not just give up and leave. What benefit does he derive out of remaining at her side?

He married her. His father gave her away to him. He is her family.

The movie rights alone are probably worth a small fortune. But, you really have to murder your wife in a spectacularly cruel fashion to get Hollywood interested...

OK, Lets just say that their are many reasons that could influence MS to kill his wife, rather then just divorce her, and none have anything to do with marital love or devotion.
