This quake wasn't anywhere near East Timor.

Were you or were you not earlier speculating or intimating this quake was a punishment for the Indonesians for their actions towards East Timor? My point is if it is it's awfully strange for God to most heavily hit an isolated pocket of Protestant Christians in an overwhelmingly Muslim part of Indonesia.

Did the quake occur in deep water? Was it an up/down (subsidence zone) quake?

So far in the History of Mankind, it isn't until we die that we have to face God's justice.
Selective intervention of God to punsih nations on Earth is an exception (miracle). But let's keep in mind that the normal times are behind us.
