Dow Jones News Reports at 11:39 "DJ Singapore Official: 7.5 Quake Hits Sumatra - Kyodo"
No other reports yet.
Your statement was correct when you posted it. However it was before local midnight in Sumatra when this quake occured, therefore - in Sumatra - the latest temblor occured 'the day after Easter'.
Have a great day you all... signing off

Reuters says:
One official said any possible tsunami could be headed toward the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, but Indonesia's Metro TV quoted a resident on the island of Nias, off western Sumatra, as saying buildings there were damaged.
"Things are quite bad right now," the resident said. "There is much damage. People are running in panic. Many people are also trapped."
He did not elaborate on what he meant by people were "trapped."
I was sort of holding my breath about Pacific Command. We've got a lot of troops still in the region.
It still amazes me that my GF can rattle that off without missing a beat.
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - The government in India's remote Andaman and Nicobar islands said it had issued a preliminary tsunami warning on Monday but was not yet evacuating people, after an earthquake struck near Sumatra.
"We are on the job," Lieutenant-Governor Ram Kapse told Reuters by telephone from the islands' capital Port Blair. "We have alerted all the police stations to alert the public in coastal areas."
Kapse said he had not felt the earthquake himself, and had not issued any orders to evacuate people from the coast.
"There is no report of any damage," he said. "We have issued an initial warning. If there is any problem, we will evacuate."
More than 7,000 people are thought to have died when the Dec. 26 tsumani struck the Andaman and Nicobar islands, which lie 1,200 km off India's mainland, close to Indonesia and Myanmar.
Relgious nuts might find it interesting that Nias is a predominantly Christian island, an oddity in Western Indonesia.
I think they'll be just fine kingu. Say prayers
Will do.
Worse is the "Who sells chicken eggs" exercise. Ask her about that one.
A 'Nice Thick Aftershock' BUMP for this thread!
your 447 post was inaccurate
"We need to understand that and mend our ways, before we find ourselves in the position of a roach looking up to see a foot, just before being squashed."
Heh, I'm sure many were saying similar things right before the "certain" Second Coming in 1000 A.D...not to mention 2000 A.D.
Further, look at all the progress we've made... We've legislated against hate speech, the various races are making real progress at living together in harmony, and prejudices against gays are under attack! Surely all this is in the spirit of "love thy neighbor" and "turn the other cheek", no?
(Yeah, I'm a troublemaker.:)
Khon Khai Kai Gai
Which parts exactly?
That's interesting. Earthquake damage is bad enough. Still praying for no tsunami anywhere.
AP says this was not a shallow depth earthquake, unlike Dec 26:
The quake occurred at a depth of 18.6 miles, and was centered 125 west-northwest of Sibolga, Sumatra, and 150 miles southwest of Medan, Sumatra, the USGS said.
After the Dec. 26 quake, the agency initially recorded the depth of that temblor at six miles. Shallow earthquakes like that generally are more destructive because the seismic energy is closer to the surface and has less distance to travel.
Monday's quake was considered to be at a moderate depth.
Tremor was felt throughout Malaysia and Singapore
Areas reported by bystanders to have felt the tremor:
Bagan
Bangi
Bukit Jalil
Cheras
Cyberjaya
Ipoh
Kajang
Kedah
Klang
Lumut
Manjung
Pahang
Puchong
Penang
Subang
